I've kept the original ones. They do need replacing though. Think there may be more to it than just donuts.

But for now let's see if she starts and runs.

It could be a big cause of the problem.

3 engines, 2 mini shells and they are all stripped and ready to get prepped for bodywork?

Motor on the far left, didn't want to start. Haven't tried the motor on the right, but the middle motor was running not too long ago so that one is going to be the one that goes in if I can figure out how to do timing.

Was a bit of an emotional purchase but now between the three I will have at least one that runs.

Supposedly a video of the motor gasping for life you can hear the starter turning while the motor is also turning...

Setting like this will get your engine started (worked for me  Wink)

Thanks.

Although I am going to have a look at the carb as I feel it's not doing what it is supposed to be doing as the motor semi runs when "engine starter" is sprayed through the carb but the carb isn't correctly atomizing the fuel.

Which is why in the video it seems to start for a short while.

Well this is at least what I think the case is.

So since the last time I had figured there were fueling issues. So the next thing on the list was a carb "rebuild"/clean and reassemble.

Started off the morning stripping and cleaning the carb.
Pulled the needle out and saw this:

Which may be the cause of the issue I was having. A quick trip to Dez and I sourced a reasoble 2nd hand EB needle (apparently the thickest needle you can get).

Nevertheless I got back home and started reassembling the carb. All went well, needle isn't touching the jet and seems to seal properly.

Filled the dashpot with oil and wala everything seems great.

Then a few weeks ago I bought some gasket paper/material.
So made these babies.

Dad then convinced me to try start the motor again which I did.
And quite asthmatic and refusing to run for longer than a few seconds, she was turning over by herself.

Choke had to be halfway out though for her to take a few gasps of air.
I'm getting a *poof poof poof* everytime she starts "firing" though so there's still some issue.

I going to put it down as a leak between manifold and head due to the manifold not being on tight.

So next weekend manifold must come off and get *chopped* as Mighty car mods guys would say. Then I'll fit the intake part back and my crows foot can go on.

Motor will go back in the car soon just needs a few odds and ends before it goes back in.
Then we're one step closer.

A random photo:

I must just say that watching that motor come to life is so exciting.
I can imagine how exciting it must be if  you have to build it from scratch.

New goal: A running mini by the end of winter.

So I made another attempt at trying to start the motor and i got it half going by itself with a really bad cough. I was told that by hte sounds of what I had described the manifold may have been leaking (which was the case).

I then sorted that out and tried to start it again bu this time I got nowhere.

Then yesterday I had to service the daily so most of the day had been used by that. However I did get a chance to tidy up some mini stuff.

I'm taking a break from the motor for now, I'll sort the rest of the car out first and then the motor will be my last issue.

Some photos I took over the last few weekends.

The builds are going to be going their separate ways from this weekend and I'll make a new thread for the blue car once it starts making some progress.

This build hopefully by the time I'm "done" it will look something like this (this is provisional and may change) :
