RE: 1978/79 GTS - Sooper - 12-12-2017 looking great bud, cant wait to see another original GTS RE: 1978/79 GTS - GTSPhil - 12-19-2017 Wire wheeled the top arms and sprayed them black, cleaned the adjustable front suspension and hi-los up.
Then some brand new RED dot rubber cone goodness..... Installed it. Cleaned up the threads. RE: 1978/79 GTS - GTSPhil - 12-22-2017 I went and collected the car from the spray painter.
Started to clean the over spray off the wiring harness. I had the harness covered with plastic bags and taped up, the spray painter did not....
The steering column and brackets and petrol pedal needed some love. After sanding down. The nasty pedal box sure did need some help. Different angle of poor pedal box. Box was stripped and sanded and pedals also All done. Had to remove both sub-frames again to fit the brake hoses and fuel line. The rear sub-frame has been found to be bent so needed changing in anyway. Procured the lines and had flare nuts crimped on as needed. Due to the car having a diagonally split brake system, I nearly misjudged the length of brake lines needed to the back, but it worked out okay. I used my other GTS's hoses as templates, although the brake lines was different in the engine bay area as to the normal. Now fitted loosely in the car, will still bend tabs etc up nicely. Need some p-clips on the back section as the new rear floor pans did not have those. Engine bay area. RE: 1978/79 GTS - GTSPhil - 12-27-2017 The replacement sub-frame being stripped. The original sub-frame also being stripped on the right... After some wire wheeling and using thinners to get into the hard to reach areas. Finally ready for some paint. RE: 1978/79 GTS - GTSPhil - 12-27-2017 Now it was onto the rear back plates. They needed some serious help. After sanding After paint Then came the radius arms... All ready for some paint. Looking much much better. End result... RE: 1978/79 GTS - Vinay-RS - 12-27-2017 Nice work on the brakes and subframes. Looking good! RE: 1978/79 GTS - GTSPhil - 12-31-2017 Then it was onto the doors, started by chasing the threads of door opener. After some swearing, sourcing other circlips and cleaning up the lock, tada ![]() Cleaning thread for door hinges. After mirror plinth was refitted, the door came up good. ![]() Now some black bits needed attention next RE: 1978/79 GTS - minitim - 01-01-2018 Good going Philip. 2018 will be the year for this GTS! RE: 1978/79 GTS - DomMINIque - 01-02-2018 Some nice progress there Philip. RE: 1978/79 GTS - GTSPhil - 01-10-2018 Thanks Tim and DomMINIque for the words. Seeing as the whole world shuts down for a needed rest, not much happened.... Black bits fitted back before everyone rested for the silly season. After finding and cleaning the brake 3 way connectors and fitting them. Waited what seemed like a lifetime for the spray painter to finish the bonnet hinges that should be body colour. Collected them today. After waiting 3 weeks for this little job, the door stops was just laying in thinners and not resprayed also. Bonnet needs some fettling... fitted with new bolts and nuts and after cleaning the spring and adjuster. Stay will also still get the black treatment at some point. And finally..... |
