RE: Turbo Build - Sean1380 - 02-09-2017

its called quench....

like when you throw water onto a fire to quench it...

I.E. a piston actually cools itself on the head of the engine, as the head will be cooled by the water jacket.

Thus the closer to the head the cooler the piston will run.

Which means less hot spots and less likelyhood of detonation

Orlando had both a suck through - built first, then and MG Metro Turbo setup in his Clubby

Oh ok thanks Sean.

Need to go back to the drawing board to see what's the best way to do this....

These are slots?
The ones to stay away from?

Just some info I'm collecting before I loose it.

I have recently had a client with a 1098 crank with 1275 pistons, needless to say the pistons was about 6.5mm from the top of the bore when measured. - GTSPhil

Keith Calver says don't bother with forged pistons - http://samini.co.za/showthread.php?tid=73&page=2&highlight=South+African+1098

Yeh, but boost is a different kettle of fish Dom.

Std pistons can crack way to easy under boosted conditions

These are boost proof -----

R8900 before importing them though.....

These Mini Spares versions are a wee bit cheaper, but cast, R4100 per set ex shipping etc

RE: Turbo Build - Sean1380 - 02-10-2017

Alternatively - Wiseco from the states make totally bullet proof pistons.

http://www.wiseco.com/Catalogs/Automotive/CustomOrderAuto.pdf

Thinking a set of 71.5mm or 72mm Wiseco pistons with a lekker 18cc dish.............

(20 thou Mini = 71.14mm, 40 thou = 71.64, 60 thou = 72.14)

Looks like Ross also do custom pistons

RE: Turbo Build - Sean1380 - 02-10-2017

As do Arias

RE: Turbo Build - Sean1380 - 02-10-2017

These are a good option, get a local machine shop to dish the piston some more.........

RE: Turbo Build - Sean1380 - 02-10-2017

Apparently JE Pistons have made 18cc MG Metro Turbo pistons in the past

RE: Turbo Build - DomMINIque - 02-16-2017

When I machine the block I would need to get 998 pushrods as well because the 1098 ones will be too long, correct?
