RE: Caesar the 1275 E - Diary of minor changes - Vinay-RS - 09-28-2017 Forgot to share this image the other day. Just a really cool image taken on the road up to Rhodes Memorial in Cape Town. The clouds were rolling in and the lighting was just right. ![]() RE: Caesar the 1275 E - Diary of minor changes - DomMINIque - 09-29-2017 Very cool little car this. Love it! I do love this car and Cape Town is a location that makes for some great photos. (09-30-2017, 10:20 AM)Jared Mk3 Wrote: Agreed. Thanks, J. Really chuffed with that photo ![]() So yesterday was the Whales and Wheels car show in Hermanus. Around 12 of us made the trip in our Minis and there were some lovely cars on display. It was a beautiful drive there and back and Caesar performed like a champ. He didn't miss a beat, was comfortably cruising at 120 km/n and turns out the fuel economy was pretty good too. Here are some of the photos of Caesar from the day ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Caesar the 1275 E - Diary of minor changes - Vinay-RS - 12-16-2017 Updates from TMF build, that I forgot to share here: The last update on this thread was quite a while ago. I've not really had a chance to work on the car and things seem to be getting worse on it. Since we got back from Hermanus, the suspension has been squeaking really badly and the scratching sound from the front end is getting worse too. And then yesterday, I completely messed up... I wasn't watching what I was doing and had an accident with another car. Besides the damage to my Mini (which absolutely sucks), I'm also now without any transport... yay, and more worryingly, the other car suffered quite a bit a damage. It's not going to be cheap to fix, so the Mini will probably remain scarred for a while, as I use any money to pay for the other car... This is going to be another sad holiday season ![]() On the positive side of things, the Mini needed the bodywork and paintwork fixed, since there are rust bubbles forming in the typical places, the roof paint is really flat and the rest of the paint is littered with water spots. So, when the work is done, hopefully at some stage, it will all get fixed. The lack of transport means I'll also be missing the upcoming swap meet which I had organised as it is quite far away from where I live and there isn't any public transport to go out there. :\ And here's an image of the damage ![]() ![]() So, I decided to take the Mini to an auto body place that I've used before. He only took a week for the work and I actually got the car back last Sunday (I forgot to update the thread... :| ). I haven't yet taken any pictures since I still need to get the vinyl sticker sorted for that wing. Now to pull finger and fix all the broken things. First up, squeaking suspension components. Then to build the disc brakes and hubs. Then find a brake bleeding kit and then fit the brakes. Maybe I can do these jobs before the end of the year... unlikely, but hey, I can dream too ![]() So, the pictures of the fixes. Gave the car a clean up this morning and took a couple of pictures. Fixed and resprayed wing, ![]() ![]() ![]() Repainted roof ![]() ![]() ![]() This trim is a bit damaged only spotted it when cleaning. ![]() The wheel is a bit damaged too, it's not too bad, but I need to find out how to fix it. ![]() RE: Caesar the 1275 E - Diary of minor changes - DomMINIque - 12-19-2017 Sounds like you've got your mini gees back! Glad to see the car is sorted and you're on the road to making Caesar even greater! RE: Caesar the 1275 E - Diary of minor changes - Vinay-RS - 12-20-2017 Yeah! I want to get it all done and there must be some time to tackle the jobs before the end of the year. RE: Caesar the 1275 E - Diary of minor changes - Vinay-RS - 12-26-2017 Decided to spend yesterday afternoon to evening working on the front suspension of the Mini (or at least trying to). The recent issues have been: 1) Squeaking suspension when driving (much like before the replacement of the bushes). 2) Scratching sound when turning right. For once I actually have a decent toolbox with metric/imperial spanners and sockets and I decided to work in the tunnel at work since no one was around to tell me not to work there ![]() I used a grease gun and greased all the grease points, front and back, removed the tie rods and greased the two front bushes on either side. I think I should have taken it all apart and greased everything, but I was worried that I wouldn't know how to put it all back together again. Also, I might have used the wrong grease. I think I need to use a metal-based grease for poly bushes, like CV joint grease. Rather than wheel bearing or rubber grease. Anyway, it didn't work, the squeaking is still there. Then I tried to remove the right side drive flange, but it wouldn't budge. No amount of prying or levering would get it loose. I wanted to remove it to put some grease on the bearings, in case they were the cause of the scratching. Turns out the real reason might be that the castle nut was loose (I know, scary...). Anyway, tightened it up and the scratching sound seems to have reduced (for now). I think I will leave it for now and get onto building the brake assemblies. Then perhaps when fitting the new brakes I can regrease everything. I wonder if I can get a one person brake bleeding kit in SA? RE: Caesar the 1275 E - Diary of minor changes - Vinay-RS - 12-26-2017 Some good things done today. I assembled the brake calipers, yay! Going to paint them again as the handling has damaged the silver paint. ![]() ![]() Up next, assemble the hubs with new bearings and then put it all together. RE: Caesar the 1275 E - Diary of minor changes - gweir - 12-27-2017 Sorry to read about the accident. Glad to hear that you are okay! |
