RE: Mini Pick Up Rebuild - Warning - Not for Sensitive Veiwers - Miniac - 09-21-2015 So Rich, are you planning on getting out of the plumbing game and into the restoration game with work like that? RE: Mini Pick Up Rebuild - Warning - Not for Sensitive Veiwers - Richie Rich - 09-21-2015 Hi Dominique, I am currently using flapper discs, alot neater and quieter than solid grinder discs. Boyscout, you correct, Tek screws hold it all together before I weld, they pull the 2 surfaces together nicely. Haha Ed, I wish. I was thinkimg about doing 1 or 2 customs, but overheads will be to high and cant work from home. Lots of patience and practice and praying RE: Mini Pick Up Rebuild - Warning - Not for Sensitive Veiwers - Richie Rich - 10-19-2015 So I took a bit of a break from the build for a while but got stuck in again over the weekend. I managed to do the exact same as the drivers side, cut the angle steel and closed the gap between the new and old steel. Front ![]() Rear ![]() Door Sill ![]() Footwell Area ![]() Finally managed to cut the excess steel from the tunnel and cut new steel to close the gaps and join new and old ![]() Cleaned up all the welds and quite happy with the results ![]() ![]() ![]() Now, the gap between the old and new on the inside will have to be done. I have decided to remove the inner sills, instead of just covering them, so that should keep me busy for a while. I am however still waiting for the new inner sills, and have had a secondary box section bent for the seats rear mounts, but still undecided whether I will use it. RE: Mini Pick Up Rebuild - Warning - Not for Sensitive Veiwers - Jared Mk3 - 10-19-2015 Really neat work! RE: Mini Pick Up Rebuild - Warning - Not for Sensitive Veiwers - Boyscout - 10-20-2015 Love your work. Welding looks good. RE: Mini Pick Up Rebuild - Warning - Not for Sensitive Veiwers - Dion - 10-20-2015 Looking good, I find welding in a vertical line very difficult RE: Mini Pick Up Rebuild - Warning - Not for Sensitive Veiwers - Miniac - 10-20-2015 Looking excellent Rich RE: Mini Pick Up Rebuild - Warning - Not for Sensitive Veiwers - Richie Rich - 11-12-2015 Managed to get a bit of work done over the last couple of weeks which have been quite busy. Removed the support frame and starting cleaning the surface rust. ![]() Cleaned up inside the sills and added some spot welds along the seam ![]() ![]() Primed with an anti rust and then overcoated ![]() I finally got the new inner sills from the steel shop and cut to size. Primed the inside of the panel and applied a topcoat before installation. You can also see the captive nuts for the seat belt tensioner mount The inner sill was later drilled on the floor flange for spot welding, pics to follow after installed ![]() Modified the box section which is under the seats. I wanted to lower the seats and the centre of gravity, so hacked out some steel and welded in some new steel. Again, captive nuts welded under the box section for mounting the seats ![]() ![]() Finally cleaned up the welds on the box section and put them in the car with the new inner sills to mock up the final position. ![]() Again just a mock up to check positioning, but quite happy. ![]() Since these I have welded everything in except for the driver side box section. Will post soon enough. Thanks for viewing RE: Mini Pick Up Rebuild - Warning - Not for Sensitive Veiwers - Jared Mk3 - 11-12-2015 That floor looks strong! RE: Mini Pick Up Rebuild - Warning - Not for Sensitive Veiwers - Dion - 11-12-2015 Great progress! Grinding down the welds must have been a mission. |
