I swapped another alloy cover for this one. It's a Motortune item if I remember correctly. That's about all I know unfortunately.

Thanks! so at least my car has one thing in common with this fantastic build!

I see that the Motortune rocker cover is listed on the Mk1 UK site

Rare item apparently! hold on to it Cool

Thanks for sharing that page! The cover I swapped for this one was an HRG item.

Also, that grey Aussie cover at the bottom of the page, belongs to me. That exact cover - scratches and all Smile Pretty cool.

No pictures, but I made a start with the steering rack swap. Old one is out, but the new one needs a coat of paint before going in. It's also a bit of a pain doing it on my own, so will look to get the new one fitted up next weekend.

Are you going to fit a quick turn steering rack?

Nope, went with a genuine standard rack. Too many people mentioned heavier steering and being more twitchy with the quick rack.

Again, no pictures, but I got the rack in and everything torqued up. Much happier now knowing that everything is lined up. I also realised I have a mix of steering arms, so need to get a matching one for the right hand side. Lastly, I sorted out something that has been bothering me from the moment I fitted them - the sun visors that kept dropping down on their own. Bit of electrical tape around the arms and they're much better now. Hopefully that will last a while like that . . .

I'd be keen to see the Macgyvered solution for the sun visors. It's cool to see such solutions.

Thanks for the advice on the steering rack. Would hate to mess up the feel of the Mini's steering.

I forgot to take pictures . . .

I finally had some time to myself to get back to this car. I wanted to do some spraying, but the winter weather isn't on my side at the moment. I did, however, purchase a few items that turned up yesterday. Main item is the bulkhead sound deadening pad :

I went with later "outboard" hinge style pad as I preferred the look of it. I decided to cut it in half to make it an easier and neater fit. Trial fit after a thin cut for the hinge to pass through :

The car is filthy and the wiring is terrible, but looking past that, the pad looks rather neat I think. The wiring is coming up on the agenda - I know absolutely nothing about electrics though . . .

Also, I fitted the fan to the motor - something different :

I spent all the savings for this packet - custom loom from Auto Sparks :

What a purchase. Congrats man, it will ensure no electric issues when the car is used.
