Ok so I came right stuck a flat screwdriver in the lock and just simply turned it, low and behold I unlocked the tank with a screw driver. Slightly worrying but done nevertheless.

Glad that's sorted then! New cap or keeping that one?

RE: Charlie - Mini Mk3 - Jared Mk3 - 09-12-2015

Quarter window refitted and hopefully sealed properly this time. Gave the car a vacuum and cleaned marks off the windows.

Lastly, this should keep me busy this weekend :

I sanded the LHS petrol tank down today. With my luck I didn't have any etch primer, so I'll have to get some tomorrow or Monday - yay for dry climate. It still needs some work, but it's mostly ready for a respray soon.

I just need to do the two tank straps and then wait for the RHS to come back.

Cleaned out the rust from inside the tank in preparation for the epoxy coat :

After allowing the tank to dry, I mixed the epoxy coating poured it in today. Came out like this :

Just have to let it cure properly now and then I can repaint the tank soon.

One tank down, another to go.

I finally got some post today - the parts I've been waiting for. Apparently the box had been sitting at the post office for the last month. Luckily a guy who knows me there kept it aside before it got sent back. I received no notification that it was there.

I also swapped out my alloy rocker cover and got a Motortune item in return :

So happy!

Fuel tank and straps repainted. Flash on to show the finish :

And a better picture to show the colour :

Yes, the strap is fluorescent pink for something different.

Well, I got the fuel tank in today. Still have the RHS one to do when I get it back. Almost forgot to put the two side panels back in with their pop rivets. Doesn't look shabby with the board in either :

Also got the neck seal in place (eventually) and put the 'S' cap on for the time being. Will but my eBay purchase on when I get it.

Second tank is now back. I just need to put the epoxy coating on the inside and then sand, prep and spray the outside (it's going to need a fair amount of work) :

Replacement caliper bought today :

It needs a little love and some new parts, but the main thing is it is not cracked. To find a RHS caliper out here in SA has proven to be quite a challenge!

I received my 'new' locking cap today, an original Tudor item with original keys :

After a polish :

And fitted to the car :

I decided to redo the disc shields. They didn't have enough primer on the first time, so consequently they still looked very pitted. They were really rough, but hey. Can also see how 'battered' they are in this picture below. Can't get them better than that. Sanded down and ready for more primer to smooth out when I do the petrol tank.

The replacement caliper now looks like this :

Ready for a good clean up and paint, including some pistons, seals, bridge seal and bleed nipple. Hopefully I can get it all done in the next day or two and fitted to the car, along with the disc shields.

I also got the second tank in today :

And the nice thing about the boot extension is this :

I managed to finish off the caliper today. I started by doing a second and final clean, so I ended up with this :

And then it was assembled and painted, ending up like this :

And finally, fitted to the car along with the weather shields :

Nothing is torqued up just yet, but I did manage to strip the nut for the passenger side track rod end. Oh yay.

Na new cap don't have keys for this one so it's going to be binned.

Sorry for the thread hijack man.

1 step forward. 5 Backward.

RE: Charlie - Mini Mk3 - Vinay-RS - 09-19-2015

And a few steps side to side Tongue I think that's called dancing.

RE: Charlie - Mini Mk3 - Jared Mk3 - 09-19-2015

More like Mini ownership haha.

RE: Charlie - Mini Mk3 - Jared Mk3 - 09-19-2015

I did the passenger side air vent deflector this afternoon. Polished the brackets and then took the protective film off the the plastic. Looks like this from the inside :

And from the outside :

Probably could have done a better job, but hey. I wanted to do the other side as well, but I forgot I haven't got a heater pipe yet - doh. So I need to find a second hand one for that side.

I rounded off the corners of the deflectors today and got them mounted properly. Job done :

Also, to louvre, or not to louvre?

I had a brain fart and put the heater pipe bracket on without the secondary bracket for the fuel line underneath it. Well, today that was rectified. I just need to get a grommet of some kind on there to protect the pipe and maybe a little protective paint as well. There's still room for adjustment should it be needed.

And to divide opinion even further, I bought these :

Now to keep them clean. I still need to get an extension for the clutch MC.

First coat of primer is on and smoothed down. It needs another coat or two and then sanding smooth and they'll be good to go.

Decided I want to do something different for the ignition key :

Works quite well, not too heavy either :

I finally got around to sorting out the centre switch panel mounting :

I didn't get a picture of what the plate looks like. She needs a real good clean inside and out.

And because I didn't get a picture the other day, here it is :

I had both cars out today as well :

The Mk3 is in need of a good wash.

I made a start on the board for the parcel shelf today. Still lots of work to do, but it's a start :

Need to decide now if I want speakers on the board or not.
