My journey - MDG - 09-22-2017 The decision was made 8 years later to restart the rebuild. I decided to do a complete rebuild (excluding sub-frames). I'm about a month in and car is 99% stripped. Currently 1. Sanding the body down 2. Stripping the engine 3. Various parts have been sent to be quoted on for powder coating 4. Head is in for evaluation 5. Spares list saved in basket (but been updated daily) on minispares.com website - very costly RE: My journey - Jared Mk3 - 09-23-2017 Will be keen to see how you get on with this. Good luck. RE: My journey - Vinay-RS - 09-23-2017 Good luck with the restoration. Glad to hear you'll be restoring every component. RE: My journey - jimmyjamjar - 09-23-2017 Great to hear you are rebuilding your Mini. I agree with you that the parts list just keeps growing and to get from England is costly but sadly some bits can only be got from there, ask me I know I have over the past few months of my rebuild subsidised SA customs every few weeks! Honestly, to enjoy the car to it's fullest, I believe one should rebuild as much as possible. Not rush the project, rather enjoy the journey and be happy and proud to drive the mini. Are you currently restoring or have you completed? (09-23-2017, 12:17 PM)jimmyjamjar Wrote: Great to hear you are rebuilding your Mini. Hi Jimmy, LOL, just this weekend, about 10 extra parts were added to the list. How is the rebuild going? I like to think of my Mini as a running project. Fix things and work on things as time goes by and slowly improve or renovate the car ![]() RE: My journey - MDG - 09-26-2017 (09-26-2017, 01:59 PM)Vinay-RS Wrote:(09-26-2017, 12:25 PM)MDG Wrote:(09-23-2017, 11:32 AM)Vinay-RS Wrote: Good luck with the restoration. Good luck. I am. Here's my thread : CLICKY RE: My journey - MDG - 05-26-2018 Hi All Been a while since I have visted the forum, trust that you all well. I have been spending many hours working on the mini parts that I can salvage. I managed to save 96 parts, which I got powder coated. They look awesome! I also did some work on other parts. Here are some pics. I sent the car to Sandblasting boys to get blasted in the areas I could not get to and had them spray it with an undercoat. Now to decide on colour and who will be best to spray. Any suggestions? |
