1978/79 GTS
I needed a timing cover backplate and timing cover, so started with this lot.

Paint removed and cleaned.

Some black paint later.

Modified backplate to take counter sunk screws, then fitted it with new duplex chain and tensioner.

Next up cylinder head got scrubbed, masked and painted some enamel.

Went for a payen black head gasket instead of my usual copper item.

On the block

Just to get the final look...

Here we have the problem with having to fix the best of what you have to build a engine,  case and point, flywheel housing cover where someone previously broke the bearing races and top of outer race, so I have to resort to this to get the race out.

Gearbox casing treads being chased and cleaned up.

New baulk rings

All important new double roller 3rd motion shaft bearing.

Old layshaft vs new

The 1st motion bearing and layshaft bearings was also replaced.  Finally the fully rebuilt item with 3.44 diff and new central oil pickup.

New waterpump, thermostat and thermostat housing fitted.

Re-con flywheel and back plate fitted with new clutch kit.

Built a 45D dizzy back up from just a body, with electronic kit, new cap,  clips and new leads.

Fitted and ready to rock and roll.

On the engine test stand, going through final prep etc.

Bit of a detour.

Started out with this set of GTS carbs...

All stripped down, cleaned and starting to fit new parts to it.

Air filter housing getting some love

And finally

Next up I had some 8.4 calipers re-conned with new stainless pistons and re-plated and removed the beloved metro vented 4 pots.  Added some new standard hoses while I was at it.

Replaced the wheel bearings on the LH hub as a precaution.  The rollers did not look great, so this was a great idea.

Replaced the outer cv joints and inner pot joints complete on both drive shafts.

The discs are used and the drive flanges also.  Bled the system and all was good.

It was time to drop the engine in, so a new bottom rad hose with heater takeoff and new top hose later on a 3 core rad...

Some new washers for the inlet/exhaust system.

While running the car, the RH float was overflowing so I had to swap the float out for a new item.  I also fitted a new link pipe between the float bowls.

Also added some new air filters to the carb setup and the finally a clubman GTS engine back in the engine bay.

I did find a fairly unmolested air filter housing that I decided to use instead of the hole version.

and

Also sourced and fitted a new wind screen washer pump.

And I reverted back to my other throttle cable linkage system that works much better.  Final result.
