Rocker cover and dipstick look sweet Jay, in terms of engine colour my personal thoughts are that if it's the original 998cc from the mk3 I'd paint it the original black. I see you've got a Cooper box on the motor as well, are there any other upgrades that have been done to the motor? I think your Motortune Rocker cover will make a seriously good impression while the bonnet is open at shows.

I can still see remnants of it under the flaking red. This unusual colour denoted SA made motors at the time. The remote gearbox is standard for these motors, which is nice. They also had a unique gearset compared to all the other cars - to compensate for the extra weight. In terms of mods, there's nothing. The major thing with this motor is that it has less than 20000miles on it, so pulls really well.

Sounds like a good basis for some minor mods.

Was watching the whatsapp chat today around what colour your motor should be.
I think you should consider a retro period colour (not necessarily Leyland) that would tie into the whole theme of your car. Something that would should off your attention to detail and cleanliness would definitely be a home run in my book. Maybe a grabber blue from this colour chart (Ford). I think its a shade too dark though. ![]() Otherwise there are these two shades of blue. ![]() Otherwise there is this 0669 colour which with your rocker cover and a few other shiny/chrome bits would work well I think. ![]() Otherwise if you're feeling brave I would maybe consider the purple (0605) with chrome, but then I think you'd have to sticker bomb one or two smaller items in the engine bay to get it to tie into the theme for the rest of the car. I think the purple would work well with the sticker bomb.

Thanks Dom! Those are great
![]() The problem with blue is that the car is already blue. It might end up being too much. That purple would be a brave choice. Mind you, I know a place online here in SA that will mix any colour you want into high heat paint used on industrial machines.
Be daring Jay and paint it purple
This is what my GTS motor originally looked like before the rebuild with a new block... ![]() This is it at present after the rebuild, I'm yet to decide on a colour for it myself... ![]() ![]() ![]() 1979 GTS

Jay, have you considered silver? It fits in nicely with the aluminium gearbox and clutch covers AND it will leave the nice little details to stand out like your polished rocker cover and minion dipstick
I'm only here to LOL and +1
