Well, I decided to take the head off the 'S' motor today to see exactly what we have underneath. Looks to be a GTS head :

The bores are good and clean, no ridges. Also looks to be standard bore from the quick measurements we took :

And the gearbox, with laygear 22G927, so nothing fancy :

yeh thats a cut cam, not a genuine ST 649. (genuine should read 648)

Nothing wrong with it though.

Was looking online, they were marked either C-AEA-648 or AEA-649, so could well be a genuine one. Not saying it is.
