Hi Guys

Thanks for all the input still thinking about the colour.

So some more stripping ensued yesterday at the end of it had this....

Some rust and pop rivets that is left from the upper engine steady bracket repair that will be dealt with.

The other side Dodgy

Then the real fun began...NOT Sad

It seems the original colour was BLACK.

This is when I started today with very limited time to sand the paint off

The other side again...

Massive problem area, I went through the previous pics of the respray and this RH front panel was in bare metal, don't see why the spraypainter decided to put filler and then spray it.  Wire wheel eats the filler and rust behind it, so after seeing this I am leaning more and more towards bare metal stripping the whole car.  Have to see how I feel about spending so much time and effort on this vs money and trusting a new spray painter and his work.

Yeah Abri

It most probably was Black with the gold stripes, but I know from previous experience with black cars, they are a pain and too much hassle in the SA sun. Never mind that the prep and paint itself must be flawless. So much of the car has changed and been swapped etc, I will have to see how I feel closer to having the car spray painted.

I'm a sucker for yellow. If it was my choice I would go for yellow with black stripes.

This sort of yellow.

Yeah, that yellow really pops. It would look sweet on your GTS. Yellow with black stripes or perhaps red with gold stripes would be two colour schemes that I would consider.

I have decided to take the car down to bare metal all over.  As if this car was sprayed again without doing that it would have been 9 layers of paint over each other as this would have been the 4th colour change.  It is good also as there is some problem areas where rust has formed under the body filler and that just will not cut it.  Since I am looking for the best bang for my buck and not standing down from a challenge, although my GF is moaning about the noise that accompanies the grinding.  I will get the job done, persistance and preserverence.

I did however realize very soon that to achieve this goal was alot of hard work doing it with a wire wheel and grinder.   Angry

I looked at getting the purple 3M abrasive wheels, to no avail yet, to speed the job up.  I actually visited 9 shops/suppliers yesterday and still could not find it on the shelf.  I have made contact with a 3M supplier so will see how it goes.

The nose and engine bay area is virtually done, moving onto the back end....

Keep at it Philip. Body prep is my least favourite part of any restoration. The fun is always putting the bits back on and looking back at a job well done!

Thanks Tim

On Saturday I put in a few more hours.

The boot floor before I removed the positive battery cable.

The other rear quarter panel...

After what seemed like an eternity and 3 wheels disintegrating later, I went back with a smaller wheel to get at the previously missed spots...

Getting there on the RH front engine bay.

LH

The temporary sub-frame will be removed to get better access to the slam panel and above the steering rack etc.

Thanks for watching, comments welcome.
