I have attached the very first picture of my car when I originally got it way back when. At that stage it was still fitted with the 32/36 down draft Weber carb and some other wacky bits.
As far as the colour goes, the engine was all black till the 2nd or 3rd rebuilt not sure when I changed to red.
I have had this conversation about originality to various GTS owners from yesteryear till now and I have heard so many different opinions, that I really could not care too much about the engine block's colour. I do however care about the interior and outside of the car as far as originality goes.
Recently I learned that I have never had the correct grille badge for my specific year model and I have managed to source it quite recently.
It has the Leyland logo on the the left and MINI on the right and not the GTS badge to the right of that.

Own some minis, break them, fix them, improve them, test them to the limit....
