Dion's Mini
#51
The section marked in red caught my eye. Did you shorten the piece that sticks out where the starter protrudes into on the clutch cover?

Compared to this which I'm used to:

Not a biggie, just me being curious

Clutch cover variants too (Ignore the circled areas)

Yes, I cut that off. I've got a pre engaged starter so that extra bit is not needed.

The one clutch cover with the shorter arm is later verto clutch, we did not get those here in SA, but I do think the cover will fit the older gearbox. I do have one of those clutches in my garage somewhere.

Jip, I recall you bought the starter from me at the time. Came off my Metro motor.

A lot has happened in the few months since my last update. The engine has been rebuilt with a few upgrades. Four bolt main cap, new cam and hopefully a new head soon too. The cylinders have been honed, block line bored and all clearances checked.

After putting back the engine and while filling up with oil I noticed oil running out onto the floor. After a closer look I realised the engineering company had removed the oil gallery plugs and did not tell me. Don't know how I missed it.

The engine had to come come again and stripped once again. The oil gallery holes were then tapped and 14mm grub screws installed.

After the engine was run in, it was off to Zwartkops for the Passion for speed festiville

Good to have a bit of an update on your race car, hopefully the motor continues to run as good as it looks for the rest of your projected race season.

Haha, the radiator does not look that great anymore, it took a knock at Killarney a few weeks back. I'm getting to that update. Smile

Love those videos from the track. The mini sounded lovely when we saw it on Saturday and it was fun to see it racing around the track Smile

Thanks Vinay, last race meeting was disappointing. Mini just did not feel right, I had very little confidence in the handling.

During the last race at Zwartkops the Mini took a bump from hard chasing Sprite, the same Sprite narrowly missed me the day before on the same corner. I say no more.

After getting back to Cape Town the dent was pulled out and repaired in a hurry to get the car looking decent for the next round of passion for speed.

Quick blow over, paint is not a perfect match, but it's a race car so it will do.
