Spencer was giving me a tab over 8.1 on the way up, but it was LOADED to the gullets.
Two sets of wheels in the back seat, one with a set of tyres fitted, two spare 10" tyres, 10 camshafts, Full golof conversion brake conversion kit, GTS brake set up, 4 Mexico arches, window rubbers, my luggage plus more.
Was very happy with how it went.

I had to change down to 3rd coming up Van Reenans pass, due to the 80kph limit, with the 3.1 the revs just dropped to low, and with its 1275E box and the stupid huge drop between 3rd and 4th, it went from revs being to low to revs being to high !!!

That's a real pity! Van Reenan can be a difficult one. The Mk3 has a nice gear set in. Unique ratios for the extra weight.

So i fiddled with the HIF44 on Sunday past.
at first i messed it up totally, set it way to lean, and i popped, banged and backfired up to the local garage to get some fuel, damn thing wouldnt run without the choke being on.
So once i had it warmed up, i fiddled with the mixture screw again.
Time to get the Metro Turbo dizzy removed and replaced with the MG Metro Naturally aspirated dizzy instead, which will give it a bit more advance at the top end.
Then get it over to Stuart Grieg to play with.

So some of you may know, from the pictures on the whatsaap group.... i finally got the Turbo distributor out and put in the MG Metro Naturally aspirated dizzy.
WOW - what a different Mini - pulls away with much more verve. Feels like i have injected new life into the motor.
Dont get me wrong, it still needs the carb to be fiddled with, as up in the reef it now starts without the choke, where as on the coast it HAD to have the choke on to start, so the mixture is no where near right.
BUT it is a good start, it must have done 140 or 150 kays on Sunday on the Jacaranda run, and pulled clean and strong all the way.
The wife (Pam) came with IN THE MINI for the first time since the DBN-JHB run all those years ago, she really appreciated the new quieter non leaking exhaust, thats for sure.
