1100 bulletproof..

Getting things ready to get a running mini, debating whether it is easier just to swop front subframes complete or fill in the missing parts.

Need to know if that black mini motor turns over though and it's stuck in gear I suspect.
Anyone have any idea how to get a gearbox out of gear without the gear lever mechanism?

On a rod change box the selector shaft can be pushed and pulled... if you pull and rotate left/right it will be 1st or 3rd
If you push and rotate left/right it will be 2nd, 4th or reverse. In between the two (in and out positions) will be neutral

Opposite to how the gear lever would be.

Awesome thank you!

Hoping she turns over by hand.

The first side I forgot to take pics of properly, got reminded by Miniac halfway through.

Clutch line from cyclinder disconnected from body. Forgot about the engine steady when I was there. However I did loosen it. Fuel lines to the mechanical fuel pump also disconnected on this one, forgot about the picture.

This definetly does not look healthy

Then for the life of me I could not get the tie rod ends out, smacked it numerous amounts of times with the rubber mallet and got no where. Eventually gave up and had a break.
Then reverted to my trusty old friend - youtube. He shows you how to remove the tie rod end but uses a ballpeen hammer - sorted. Outside I went with a proper hammer now no more mallet and wala. Two good smacks on either side and this is the result:

So list for tomorrow:
Blue mini:
Remove engine steady
Lower gear lever and housing
Move battery cable out the way
After this the blue one should be free.
Black one:
Do everything I did today and tomorrow on the blue mini again.... just for fun and this time on the black mini

Then by tomorrow afternoon I should have two free engine/subframe combinations and two empty engine bays.
Then it starts to get interesting.

Looking good so far Dom, it'll be a breeze doing it on the second shell as you've already learnt a lot today with this one.

Dom,

Do yourself a favor and invest in a proper ball joint separator tool

I bought one from Autozone for about R250. worth every cent. It does work to give the ball-joint a smack with two hammers on the side, but inevitably you end up damaging something. With the proper tool it is really  easy to do it. Even better if you drive the tool with an impact wrench  Cool

Good job so far Dominique.

+1 Boyscout. A ball joint splitter is a must have. There are a number of varieties available that work.

Can only agree with what's been said above - balljoint splitter is a lifesaver.
