1100 bulletproof..

So I started the morning off making vroom vroom noises

Then I realised why not get a little further with the minis while I had some time.

Now considering the blue one was so full of sand and any other possible thing you could think of I thought a good wash would be appropriate.

How it all started:

Now I used engine cleaner as I had some at home and thought it would be the most appropriate. However it didnt do very much although I may have given it a little too much to handle.
I'm going to try some "clean green" or parrafin next time I'm at it.
I use parrafin to clean the drivetrain on my bicycle so it does handle some greasy stuff surprisingly well.

Where I ended off after two hours of scrubbing:

A small spot just to show how bad it really is

Nice to see that you have an 11 stud head in the one motor.

It hasn't done a bad job on the cylinder head. Do you have access to a pressure washer. Apparently once you've sprayed on the engine cleaner/degreaser you need to use pressure washer to effectively remove all the grease and grime.

It also helps to use a soft brush to get the degreaser into all the nooks and crannies, then use a soft wire brush to loosen up all the grime prior to using a high pressure cleaner. Just be sure to block off all openings, such as intake and exhaust ports, plug holes, open oil ways and so forth.

Let the degreaser soak and then blow off with a high pressure cleaner or use an air compressor with a paraffin gun. Only thing it makes a huge mess.

Miniac both motors funny enough have 11 stud heads. However only the one has the heater thing fitted (will get to looking eventually if it is a GTS head)

This was just a spur of the moment thing, got both a pressure washer and a compressor so I'll use one or the other next time. This was done with the hosepipe.

I used a hard bristle brush here but it doesn't get into all the nooks and crannies so I need to find one with a smaller head to get in there. The brush I was using seems to be ready for the bin now though because of how thick the grease is/was. I'll see if I can give it a clean so I can use it again.

Some 1100 motors had 11 stud heads but didn't have the double valve springs or the larger valves.

Had a spare hour today. Not enough time to unpack the pressure washer or compressor so used some good old elbow grease.

Tried cleaning with parrafin as opposed to engine cleaner.

Here are the results:

Paraffin works wonders on engine grime.
