The pictures can do the talking.

The day she arrived:

A weird looking attachment to the intake manifold:

Switch found on the floor near the accelerator pedal, no idea what it did.

And bad bonnet

My wheel caps:

Some dent removal. Still not happy with it though. Car was also very badly sprayed at some point in time

The high point that I'm not happy with:

How badly warped the bonnet is, which is probably the most annoying thing on this car.

The issue:

From the underside:

Unpacked her again for a good clean and to see what the sound setup  would look like. Want to use my old iPad as a head unit

All my parts unpacked, excluding subframes:

The car originally being from the northern cape seemed to gather some serious dust and sand at one point in its life.

Some sound deadening that got left behind:

All clean:

Had no idea what this was but I now know - mechanical fuel pump.

Rocker cover removed

A really vrot thermostat housing

So he two biggest issues with the blue car are obviously all the rust and then I am convinced that the previous owner must have been annoyed at his wife one day and decided to take it out on the mini's wiring. He cut the whole section of wiring that feeds into the dash area completely out so I'm left with a loom that is missing about 30cm.

So I've been saving for a uk order and with a consistently weakening pound the more I save the same amount of stuff I can buy...

Then I came across this whose wiring is in tact and so is the shell.

However she is missing an interior and after getting her home and having a look around a few other things too...

In the garage with some serious wheel offset:

Excuse the bad pictures. Dirty hands and my cellphone don't seem to agree.

Half the door lock mechanism.... gone

Steering wheel.... gone

Inerior... gone

Some funky aftermarket dash but all VDO gauges - rev counter, voltmeter, ammeter and thermostat.

Unfortunately it was screwed into the dash rail to be secured so some small holes are going to need to be closed.

The gauges that need a good clean

What I thought was going to be my worst nightmare, a locked petrol cap. But a flat screw driver made short work of that and then it was open.

Rust free bootlid, no boot lock though

Fuel sender... gone

Got another in tact right tail lense so now I have two sets.

The slight dent on the roof, the only damage to the shell

The only rust issues that are present

Starter... gone

My last hope of dating the car... gone (No wiper motor)

Coil moved up here for some reason...

An aftermarket back yard mechanic bonnet mechanism...

Now this is where some people may freak out however there are ways and means around this...
No chassis tags - do not fear I've checked on the eNatis system and it can be re-registered, so just need to get myself some new chassis tags.

Another bad bonnet... it seems I can't get away from these things.

Is there any possible way that I can put the car in neutral from the gearbox as i want to see if the motor turns over by hand? Currently the car is stuck in gear...

Gear change lever & mechanism.... gone

Came with a tow hook though with could be useful at some stage..

Just a "cool" picture of the mini peeking out the garage parked next to the daily driver.

Packed away for the weekend

Mechanical fuel pump... gone but it's been blocked off so this isn't a crisis at all.

Driveshafts... gone

So when I first went through it I thought that the VDO gauges were quite a surprise considering that they don't come cheap.

But this was even more of a shocker to me.

A complete headliner just dirty. I'm too scared to even touch it in case I damage it.

Speedo with only 8000km on, maybe it had a rebuild recently? Who knows. According to the license department the last license was paid for in 2011.. If the engine has been standing since then a rebuild wouldn't mean too much then.

When I found this then I thought that I was part of a tv show...

Rat droppings, at some point they made their nest behind the dashboard. Luckily they left the wiring alone.

Pulled the fuel tank out so it can get sprayed and coated on the inside after a wash. Also need to change the tail light lense on the left side as it has been cracked.

And that's where I am at for now.

You really have found some interesting cars with some interesting mods Wink What are your plans for these cars?

So now that all the pictures are up.

Here's the plan:

I'm going to get red racing stripes running so I have something to go to the shop and back with. I have also never driven a mini and am running out of patience slightly now.

The plan is to take the missing parts from the blue mini and get the red mini running.

Once the red one is running then the work can start on the blue one and that will be a complete rebuild hoping to go for a smooth theme that is show quality with a nice strong motor and some replica classic cooper bucket seats.

The spare motor will be stripped and rebuilt properly with maybe some extra oxygen assistance just to make sure it's a GTI eater and OPC beater.

Maybe something not so full of chrome..

I'm going to try and do as much as possible by myself as I (read as my dad) have access to most of the tools necessary. Just no engineering equipment..

I like the sound of those plans for the blue one.

The floor mounted button is your headlight dipswitch for your brights.

Looks like you've got a fair bit of useful parts there to a decent car together.

Forgot to mention, the one engine was once taken out as all the engine mountings are loose and I can rock the engine in the subframe.

Thanks for that info there Ed. Thought that only applied to the earlier models.

Space this week has become a challenge though, double garage and 3 car carport is now filled with 6 cars and another arriving tommorow. Good thing the minis are so tiny..

A couple of interesting mods on that second car. I wonder why the previous owner made them.

Forgot to add - I like the idea of the iPad being used for the dash piece.

Wow. You are in for a bit of graft. Good thing you have two. The black body still looks like it is in fair shape. Do you have enough parts between the two? Good luck with your project.
