Mini overheating
#1
Hi

I bought the Mini with an Uno radiator and electric fan installed. Initially the temperature went up to boiling point. One reason was a blown head casket and perhaps to hide this problem the thermostat was also removed. I installed a 82 degree thermostat and the head was done. Although the temperature is now lower it still goes up to about 100 degrees on the open road even with the electrical fan running. Is the Uno radiator not up to the task and will it help to fit the mechanical fan?

Regards

Hi Adriaan

Just a few pointers:

Check what heat range (BP6ES NGK) plugs you are running, gapping the plugs is also very important.
Next up what distributer does your engine have and what is the timing at idle and about 3000rpm max advance. (Must be checked with electronic timing light).
Next up what carb you running with which jetting?

Remember air flow through the radiator is less with the electric fan running at high driving speed vs in traffic when it should be running.
If the car is fitted with a heater make sure there is no air locks in the cooling system.
Own some minis, break them, fix them, improve them, test them to the limit....

I have a uno radiator in my clubby and it's more than up to the task.

I would say that there is something else that's the cause of your overheating issues.

es agree with all thew above and also perhaps giuve the radiator and engine a good flush, might be some junk in the core and the water galleries.
