Hi All - cjsnyman - 12-31-2015 Hi All. I owned my 1st 1275e Mini when I was 16, I bought another 82’ 1275e, a few months ago. I got tired of seeing so many Classic Mini’s being scrapped and considered junk, so I decided to safe one. If it was up to my Banker I would’ve saved all of them ![]() I bought the 1275e a couple of Months ago for R17000, already spend a lot on it. I’m busy with the engine, already did Golf Disc brakes and Hi-Losuspension, New CV’s, 13”Mini Lites The engine in progress, being done by Oom Koos van Staden in Centurion: - Nural .40 High Compression Pistons - Polished Conrod’s and Cut Crank - Head Gash flowed - Double Valve Springs - 35mm Cooper Spec Race Valves - Unleaded conversation - Mini 649 Cam - HS6 (1.75”) SU Carb - Double Timing Chain - LCB Manifold - Lightened fly wheel The interior (Roof) still has to be redone, some body work…..but the engine was the important part for me. I’m looking forward to chat to you guys. Tiaan Snyman RE: Hi All - u09521 - 12-31-2015 Welcome Tiaan! I'm very interested in what kind of output you will get from that motor build. Mine is identical - if you ignore the differences (cut crank, 1.5 rockers) and I've always felt its not producing what it should. Hopefully you'll put it on a dyno sometime and let us know. RE: Hi All - Vinay-RS - 12-31-2015 Welcome Tiaan. Sounds like you've done quite a lot of awesome work to your mini. Looking forward to seeing some pics of it ![]() RE: Hi All - cjsnyman - 12-31-2015 (12-31-2015, 06:03 PM)Vinay-RS Wrote: Welcome Tiaan. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. All stripped. The motor was bad. 2 valves cracked and a piston cracked (12-31-2015, 04:24 PM)u09521 Wrote: Welcome Tiaan! Ive heard with the 649 cam I should use my standard rockers as the 1.5's will make it undrivable. Is that true? RE: Hi All - Jared Mk3 - 12-31-2015 Welcome ![]() RE: Hi All - Vinay-RS - 12-31-2015 That looks really neat. Shiny brakes are awesome! RE: Hi All - u09521 - 01-01-2016 I wouldn't say it's un-drivable, but it needs an adjustment in driving style. There's not much torque up to 4000rpm. Pulling off you need to leave a gap to the car in front else you keep launching into the back of them and you have to keep it in the right rev range, so there's no tootling about. In hindsight I shouldn't have used the 649 for general road use and when something else breaks due to the constant high rev abuse I will look to change it. RE: Hi All - cjsnyman - 01-01-2016 Will it be possible for me to see your Mini or feel it (you driving) before Oom Koos goes on with the Cam next week. I don't want to do it now and sort of regret it. I'm based in Springs RE: Hi All - abri - 01-01-2016 If you're planning to use the car as a weekend toy or a track day car a 649 cam makes sense. For driving around town, in traffic or commuting it does not make sense. The 649 is a racing cam which means it will cough and splutter at low revs (where you spend most of your time in city driving) until you get into the power band where all hell breaks loose. Horses for courses as they say. Being a racing cam, the 649 already has relatively high lift (someone with more experience can correct me if I'm wrong), so it sort of already does the job that high lift rockers would do. RE: Hi All - cjsnyman - 01-01-2016 Hi Abri. Thank you. Yup. Its a weekend car. I've been told the 649 Cam already has a 8mm lift. |
