RE: New member from Pretoria - Miniac - 09-28-2015 Pop off the rad cap and look inside the rad, you'll be able to see either 2 rows of slits or 3 rows of slits in the core. Apart from the dings and dents, your clubby looked to be fairly solid and rust free. RE: New member from Pretoria - Tiaan - 09-28-2015 It was resprayed very poorly to Subaru blue, but was suppose to Hyundai Sparkle blue. The driver side floor was rusted through, had to weld in a new floor in there. The rest was just a bit of surface rust. RE: New member from Pretoria - Jared Mk3 - 09-28-2015 So glad you saved it ![]() RE: New member from Pretoria - Vinay-RS - 09-28-2015 It has certainly had a rough life. I guess it'll get a second chance now. Best of luck with the work. RE: New member from Pretoria - Tiaan - 09-29-2015 Is it necessary to skim a 1275 head when you replace the head gasket? RE: New member from Pretoria - theMINIguy - 09-29-2015 It all depends on how true the head is. If it has severely overheated chances are the surface of the head are no longer be true and it will need to be resurfaced. This may only be be removing a few thou to get it perfectly flat again, it's not the same as skimming to increase compression. RE: New member from Pretoria - Boyscout - 09-29-2015 You mentioned that were going to do the unleaded valve seat conversion. So then have the head done and resurfaced at the same time. It cost me about R 2400 in December 2013 to have the head stripped, chemically cleaned, new valve seat inserts, surface grind, new valve guides, refaced valves and cut new seats, re-assemble and leak test. RE: New member from Pretoria - Miniac - 09-29-2015 Sounds like a good deal, did that include the price of the unleaded inserts? RE: New member from Pretoria - Boyscout - 09-30-2015 That was for everything. included the inserts and valve stem seals. done @ Alan Y Brink. RE: New member from Pretoria - Miniac - 09-30-2015 Definitely a good deal. ![]() |
