RE: Frankenstein - DomMINIque - 03-28-2017 And we now have a new leak.... FML. ![]() At this stage I just sit back and laugh. And then after another failed day on the breaks, which I've now put down to a faulty master cylinder seal I reverted something else and ended up with some of these. Templates: ![]() ![]() Converted this: ![]() Into: ![]() ![]() Got 3 sets of carpets now. Just need to get some contact adhesive to put them into this car and the turbo car. RE: Frankenstein - Vinay-RS - 03-28-2017 Looking good! Which one of the cars will get the Leyland whirlpool rubber sections? RE: Frankenstein - DomMINIque - 03-29-2017 Most likely the one that is going to be a restore. I'm hoping they don't look too tattered once they in a car though. But otherwise I'm going to have to see if I can make an almost perfect copy. RE: Frankenstein - DomMINIque - 04-10-2017 And he breathes and runs again. Wasn't very happy with me the first time I ran him around the block, think he's been standing for too long. Opened the door to a floor of this: ![]() Pulled the master cylinder out and it was soaked. ![]() Got the new one in and bled the whole system. Yes apparently this is now the wrong way round. But the old one was in this same way so instead of rebending pipes I just put it in the same way. ![]() Took Frankenstein for his first drive since the jacaranda run. Glad I've got a mini back on the road. ![]() From all of this I have come to the conclusion that if I have to do this again I will be buying a brake bleeding kit for one man bleeding because trying to get help.... Learnt something new though which was cool. RE: Frankenstein - Vinay-RS - 04-10-2017 Nicely done Dominique! It must be a great feeling to complete the job over the weekend and get the mini running (and stopping) again. RE: Frankenstein - DomMINIque - 04-10-2017 Very happy about it dude! Car just needs a serious wash and some carpets. This is 100% my problem as well. Both my minis have some brake maintenance/upgrades in the works which I cannot do since I do not have a "bleeding buddy" RE: Frankenstein - DomMINIque - 04-25-2017 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Frankenstein got a nice wash over the weekend as I wasn't in much of a mood to do anything too complicated. Looking all clean and fancy now. ![]() ![]() I took leave for the rest of this week. Going away for the long weekend and thought why the hell not make it a 7 day weekend. So I took the mini to gym this morning and had to pull over half way. Temp was hitting 100 deg which this mini NEVER does. Opened the bonnet and it was like a Sauna. Phoned my brother to bring me some water and a tow rope and nursed the mini down the 2km road back home. Seems since I've fixed all the other leaks it has now found two new weak spots to leak from. So this is going to be a case of replacing/renewing the whole cooling system. Almost feels like deja vu again. Hopefully I can pull everything out this afternoon. RE: Frankenstein - DomMINIque - 05-04-2017 So stripped the cooling system apart after it hit 110deg on my way to gym last week. Need to get the radiator fixed and sort out the leaking thermostat housing gasket. Here are some pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh and put a thermostat back into the car as you can see if never really had one. RE: Frankenstein - DomMINIque - 06-09-2017 So how it got left last weekend: ![]() ![]() Some progress not much though. Decided when I was looking at putting it back that this one is going to go back in properly and not "back yard mechanic style" So got my dad to help me make some brackets so that the radiator and fan and seat themselves properly to avoid the disaster created previously. Hopefully once this is done I can get a few more miles out of him. |
