RE: Frankenstein - DomMINIque - 04-16-2018 So since the 66 is now gone. I got to spend some time on my own car. After spending the morning washing my bicycle. I took the mini out to the shop. Quite a bad grinding noise which has gotten significantly worse.... The result: ![]() ![]() So some damage has been done.... Will need to replace the UJ and bend the manifold somewhat to clear it. When I pulled the manifold off obviously the carb had to come off as well... Turns out the the hs4 was leaking fuel (oh and there was a manifold leak as well....) So instead of doing a half assessed job I'm going to sort it out properly now to get it going strong again. Was playing with some ideas re the carb situation: ![]() The brick was just there for clearance purposes as it's about the same height as the air filter. ![]() Oh and to top it all off seems I have a break fluid leak from somewhere.... But we'll just deal with one thing at a time.... RE: Frankenstein - Sean1380 - 04-16-2018 Put that mother trucker of a down draft on it Dom RE: Frankenstein - DomMINIque - 04-17-2018 Everyone keeps telling me that Sean.... LOL. Seems there is no alternative. RE: Frankenstein - Jared Mk3 - 04-18-2018 Like Sean says, fit the down draft! ![]() Have you got a replacement rubber joint for the driveshaft? RE: Frankenstein - Sean1380 - 04-19-2018 is it a 36IDF ? RE: Frankenstein - DomMINIque - 04-19-2018 @Jared I don't unfortunately. But Rui said he had one at home spare. I just want to bend and refit the exhaust so if I do destroy a rubber joint more it won't be a good condition one... @Sean Dellorto DRLA 36 actually the turbo version but we not going to get ahead of ourselves now. RE: Frankenstein - Sean1380 - 04-24-2018 Ahhhhhhh - Turbo !!!! - Do it RE: Frankenstein - jimmyjamjar - 04-24-2018 Did you raid the Delorto carb from a VW or Porche? Is the brake master cylinder standard,? never seen one like that before. RE: Frankenstein - DomMINIque - 04-24-2018 LOL Sean don't think this motor would cope with the boost. Think it will literally self destruct.... @Jimmy. I didn't directly no. Bought it as a "kit" turbo, intercooler, carb and a few other bits. But based on what I've seen it must have been because I've got a complete right side and half a left side (just the body). The jetting that is also currently in it also seems more suited for a beetle based on the twin dellorto set up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Bought a set of twins a while back so thought I'd take them apart and clean them to determine whether they could just be used in the interim while I wait for Dellorto spares. They appear to be in reasonable condition. However they have EB needles in and a "brown" spring which isn't actually a colour. Also semi stuck with air filter options for this set up as well. So it seems I'm somewhat back to square one with half a clean set of twins... RE: Frankenstein - Vinay-RS - 04-25-2018 Does it not have a standard air filter box? I'd imagine Dez or one of the other Mini guys up there have a few standard twin air filter boxes in storage. The air filters are relatively easy to get for those boxes. |
