SU HS-4 Service Kit - alfaquad - 09-27-2016 Hi there guys, I'm looking for a service kit for my Mini 1000's SU HS4 carb. It is completely stuffed - at the moment adjusting it has no effect whatsoever. Big balls of black smoke just bellow out the exhaust. Or alternatively another decent carb would also be considered? Thanks! RE: SU HS-4 Service Kit - DomMINIque - 09-27-2016 Your 1000 shouldn't have an hs4 but rather an hs2. Maybe that'syour issue. The hs4 would definetly over fuel a 1000cc. So this is a really bad statement made by me in ignorance. Apologies. Maybe post a pic of the carb and we can see if it is actually an hs4. The car has been standing for quite some time, and carb has needed an overhaul for years. Will take a pic quick, but am sure it's an HS4. ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: SU HS-4 Service Kit - Vinay-RS - 09-28-2016 Probably best to get an SU rebuild kit from the UK or probably from Sports Car Centre. RE: SU HS-4 Service Kit - Boyscout - 09-28-2016 It looks like the float bowl is overflowing, causing flooding. Buy a new needle & seat kit from Sportscar Centre and all should be fine. BTW a HS4 is a great carb for the 998. RE: SU HS-4 Service Kit - alfaquad - 09-28-2016 Thanks guys, I'll phone Sportscar Centre and hear what they say. The HS4 is great on the 998. This car used to bounce off a true-reading 95mph speedo every day when I used to drive it daily ![]() RE: SU HS-4 Service Kit - Miniac - 09-28-2016 The HS4 is an excellent upgrade to the smaller HS2 on a mild to wild 998cc motor, as has been suggested by Boyscout, needle and seat and while you're at it look for play in the spindle |
