First mini and excited - TheMod - 05-08-2018

Good Morning

my name is Gerard I am from Johannesburg and well bought a mini yesterday

this is my 1st mini I do already own a 68 merc and umpteen vespa and lambretta. very excited to get a mini been considering one for years. only think is I dont know if I got a good buy bad buy nice car okay car or even really what model it is. there seems to be so many variations on mini fron the 60s that i can not confirm especially the SA built ones seem to be different to UK built. but to the best of what I could find. it is a 1966ish Austin Mini 1000 with soft top sunroof.

excited to start playing

Gerard

Welcome, Gerard! She looks absolutely gorgeous! A little bit of TLC and she'll be a great example of a Mk1. When you start your restoration, you should consider starting a build thread here so that we can follow your progress.

Never mind seems the seller does not hold word, we agreed on a price last night this morning at 8 I am told he has got a buyer that offered more and he is going with him... back to the classifieds.

Maybe I am too old school and believe in my word as final deal on sales

Yeah, you kind of hope that people will wait for you to produce the money and will accept the first price. Sorry, dude. That is no fun at all...

Good Morning Gerard.

That mini has been around the last few days over whatsapp and fb.

Not sure what you agreed to with the seller but these days. Word doesn't really mean much these days.

This will at least give you some opportunity to get more familiar with the different models and what's more desirable.

RE: First mini and excited - TheMod - 05-08-2018

I see word has very little standing now days but thats okay I have always said if i dont get a vehicle its for a reason.

I offered R15k and was outbid to R17k I dont now feel like an auction type fight with the buyer as I assume thats where it would have gone to.

100% now I can make sure which models are which and what is worth more in terms of rarity etc... I was very keen on a mint 1959 850 Morris but price was a little steep I thought R200k before I started negotiations it was with a collector in the south of Johannesburg

what I can say i like in a mini thus far
I dont mind okay original paint with section that have rubbed through and even a little surface rust but NO cancer
exposed hinges
chrome grill
chrome mirror
hubcaps or Cooper style mags (not the white venter trailer looking mags)
So i think I have now know that MK1 and 2 is where I can look does that sound about correct?

If I find the right Mini I dont mind spending extra I have spent too many hours restoring Vespa and lambrettas that I would prefer a car to just drive off in,  and like everyone starting out I WANT A COOPER S Wink no really I have a great lambretta and vespa collection would like to be a spolit brat and also start straight with a Cooper S (if not why not)

Welcome Gerard :-)

Welcome! I do hope your first attempt won't put you off getting a Mini. There are a lot of palookas out there ready to rip you off. Why not ask one of the splendid Mini owners in you part of the world to accompany you to a buy that way you might be able to escape a dud bu, (and also get to know a super Mini fellow). BTW I love the Vespa my first wheels was a 175 cc GS model which I drove for many years.
