Hi guys.
Blew a head gasket on my 1100 clubman.
Had it skimmed and converted to unleaded.
Tdc and dizzy are totally out. Timeing chain has been replaced. Is there a way to ensure that that cam is correct I think there is a stuff up somewhere .
What's the correct way to set up tdc and have the dizzy point to cylinder 1?
I have no Mark's on the pulley only a cut line no ref on the cam cover. I am stumped! Seems my car is all out of wack.

Take the timing cover off on the side of the engine and check if the gears on the timing chain line up with each other - they have dots on them that should be adjacent to one another. There are also markings on the flywheel that will show TDC. A simple way of checking is a screwdriver or something through the plug hole on No1 to see when the piston is on TDC. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. I have the dots lined up on timeing gears. I have tdc with the on cylinder 1.
Problem is that my dizzy faces down towards 7 o clock? Could it be that the cam is in the wrong position? Even if I rotate the cam the dizzy moves but will not line up to the correct position. ( facing to cylinder no 1.) Like I mentioned the dizzy only fits one way so I can't turn it 180°

You can remove the dizzy drive and move it around if need be, using a long bolt. (no other method please, you drop it, and its into the gearbox and you have to take the motor out to get it out).
Get hold of a Haynes manual, it will help you immensely.
