Looking spiffy mate. So which LEDS did you land up using in the end of it all Malcolm?

I scrounged together enough working original bulbs. I'll look into the LED route if the bulbs fail down the road.

That came out seriously bright for a set of incandescent bulbs, normally they're next to useless and these came out awesomely bright.

I cleaned all the contacts on the bulb holders, and polished up the copper contacts in the PCB. That probably all makes a difference to current flow.

Also, there are 3 different wattage bulbs you can use that are commonly available. (1.2W, 3W and I think 5W - more or less)
The issue is anything over 3 Watt gets too hot and can melt the plastic, so just check the temps.
