When they talk about a 50% power increase what are they looking at? ~90kW?

Standard mpi output is 47kw so my guess would be about 70kw.

That doesn't sound like too much, but I guess the car is still essentially a road car for daily use and it only weighs ~650 kg.
50% increase would be 90+ kw. On a car that weighs about 650kg that is a mean power to weight ratio. That is more than 138kw/ton. To put that into perspective, the new Golf 7 GTI is 114kw/ton.

Well 50% would only be from what it started with making it circa 24kw. So I'd expect it to be 70-71kw as already stated by Dion so it'll be around 109kw per a ton, that's some seriously good performance for a mini.

Google says a MPI sports pack Mini weighs 715kg so about 100kw per ton excluding driver, still I'm sure it will go very well and will have loads of torque.
