The complete set of spares and tools to carry on a road-trip in a Classic Mini
#1
Following on from the best driving roads thread, I figure it would be nice to know what people carry in their Minis when they've taken a road-trip. Also saw a picture on Facebook today with a Mini boot full of tools and spares and thought about how that compares to normal Mini boots.

Glad you started this Vinay - was looking at doing some longer trips over the long weekends to rather enjoy the mini now.

I'll start with what I think is the obvious:

Jack
Spare wheel
Basic toolkit - screwdrivers, pliers, spanner set.
Points and condenser.
Spark plugs.

I would add:

Jumper cable leads
Fire extinguisher
spare fuel pump
spare fan belt
correct wheel nuts if you have mags and your spare is a steelie using different nuts
Spare fuses
tow rope

The wheel nuts is a good one unless you have a set of 5 alloys.
Also worth noting that one should make sure the spare wheel is in good shape and is fully inflated.

Looking at these lists, there is definitely stuff I want to get for the boot spares.

I would also add:-
spare bulbs, brake/stop. indicator, main beam, park
piece of plastic to lie on
waterless hand cleaner and small sports towel
small battery driven compressor like the 4x4 boys use
basic test lamp
safety triangles
packet of biscuits and 2lt Coke - you might have to wait to be rescued! Wink

It might be worth adding a litre of oil into the toolkit as well. Can be kept in a sealed container.

I see where you're going with a tow rope and food....and raise you a one man tent Tongue

For normal driving around town I just have a set of jumper cables in addition to the normal wheel change stuff. I have to admit I've never had to use them.

On long road trips I normally take a set of spanners, a flat and star screw driver, a pair of pliers and a spare SU fuel pump in addition to the above.

what spanners would you keep? and would you have a tool roll to minimize the space taken up by the tools?
