Minitim's 1972 Clubman Estate

First port of call this week-end was to see the condition of the brakes and have a look at the suspension.
As to be expected from a 44 year vehicle, there were a few surprises.
Firstly, the front needed new shockabsorbers, as someone in their infinite wisdom decided that they would install ones off a motorcycle. Worst of all, the 2 sides did not even match!

A few phone calls for pricing and availability led me to a  local spares shop, who fortunately had both front and rear shocks in stock. Also as no surprise, the suspension bump stops are no more, and new ones will have to be purchased.

While the front wheels were off, I had a look at what the brakes were up to. The left side was drenched in brake fluid, while the right hand side pistons are seized solid in the slave cylinders.

Guess there are some more items to add to the growing list of parts needed.

This weekend I was sure that I had all to sort out the brakes and thus have the Estate mobile again.
All went well and the passenger side replacement of the the slave cylinders and brake shoes went off without a hitch.

When it came to doing the drivers side, my heart sank, as the flexible rubber hose was perished in a bad way and needed urgent replacement. As it was already late, and there was no means to get new pipes, I turned my attention to the rocker cover.

A lick of paint and a new cork gasket makes all the difference...for now. I would ideally like to get the cover painted in the correct Leykor colour with stickers, but this will have to wait.

Sunday was spent at leasure with the instument cluster. The binnacle was stuck onto the cluster with silicone and prestick, which was a mission to clean off. The clocks were stripped out and given a thorough cleaning.

Thanks for the comments guys.

The cluster body was given a clean with good old hot water and Handy Andy.
Soak for a while and then use a paint brush and tooth brush till nice and clean.
