Both my wife and I always wanted a Mini, we finally got the chance to buy our first little project…

I have no Mini knowledge at all, I only now  want to drive one, so the whole rebuild will go one step at a time having to learn everything, and some things the hard way…

So here is the very first before picture the day we took our mini home…

Looks may be deceiving...

It soon came to be clear that this little Mini's middle name was "Cover-up"!!!

Cable Ties
Isolation tape
Tar strips
Expanding foam
Silicone

choose your poison...

some more

And off we go to the sandblasters...

  My Van den plas
Posted by: Sooper - 03-31-2016, 12:00 PM - Forum: Your Classic Minis Story - Replies (4)

i was lucky enough to get a van den plas from a mate, car was all the way in Ladybrand in the free state and was truely a barn find, car started and runs fine, has a carb issue and then big penalties on the licence, apart from the paint work, the rest is 100% van den plas, hopefully another one that will be started soon.

  Dads 65 Traveller
Posted by: Sooper - 03-31-2016, 11:54 AM - Forum: Your Classic Minis Story - Replies (3)

the 1st mini that i ever had, purchased in 1997, was red in color with lots of rust, car was rebuilt on a tight budget but just never ran 100%, its been standing outside for a few years and surprisingly has no major rust, current rust was caused by car cover holding water. very rare to get a flat roof mk1 traveller now days. will hopefully get going with this one soon as well, ideal for beach bum look. my dad has taken it over for him to repair now

  My 66 1000
Posted by: Sooper - 03-31-2016, 11:49 AM - Forum: Your Classic Minis Story - Replies (6)

ive had this for approximately 6 years now, ran excellently, smoothest ride ever, car is quite original minus the front seat covering, carpets and paint. car heated up a few years ago on the way to roadworthy and been parked of since then. will be doing a full restoration on this when money and time becomes available, unfortunately all my projects have been shelved for a while now, hopefully in the next 6/12 months i can get going full swing.
