Will post the videos for this series here. Great bunch of passionate Australians who enjoy building cars. They're fun to watch as well.

  Digital Speedo Gauge

Don't have much info on this, but do have an excerpt from another forum :

Quote:From what I can gather the units going to retail at approx £350 GBP and is fully programmable for wheel size, Fuel sender type, with a 'Tripmeter' and all LED illumination and indicator lights. Speed information can be from the end of your existing speedo cable (by an electronic/mechanical adaptor or by a speed sensormounted close to a drive shaft. Full calibration of the unit can be set up for excellent accuracy for speed/distance while not 'cheap' or OE Equipment, if you want that extra special center clock more in line with todays more modern cars - this might be it !

  1978/79 GTS
Posted by: GTSPhil - 11-11-2015, 08:14 AM - Forum: Your Classic Minis Story - Replies (263)

Some history and background on my beloved GTS.

I bought the car in 2004 after being referred by a specialist who had the car there for a service and some work.  The Saturday morning myself and my Dad went to Benoni to look for a mini for sale.  I looked at the car and liked it, the office produced the then owner’s details.   After having a chat and organizing to meet at a neutral location after I had to draw the price in cash.  As it turned out the owner was not the Father that I had spoken to, but the Son.  A deal was struck for R13 000 cash.  Not really knowing much about classic minis at that stage the car went well enough.  The very first thing that went wrong was after I hit a pothole on the R516 the left front suspension collapsed.  My dad was still far away on his outings for work, so eventually I fitted the 10 inch spare wheel the wrong way around, due to the 8.4 inch disc brakes being in the way and drove like that home.  The aluminium strut had broken and was soon replaced.

  Mark 1 BOOT LID
Posted by: barryb - 11-10-2015, 06:34 PM - Forum: Wanted - Mini Related - Replies (10)

My Mini project came with a Mk2 boot lid which just does not look right on a 1965 model Mk1. I have refurbished the Mk2 boot lid which is now pristine. So I am open to a swap or purchase deal to get the correct boot lid for my car.

Not interested in a badly damaged/rusted boot lid that will take a hundred hours to fix.

Any ideas ?

Rgds,

Barry B.

Tick Spirited driving
Posted by: u09521 - 11-10-2015, 04:00 PM - Forum: Suggestions & Tips - Replies (2)

I made this comment in another post so it might get lost. Please excuse the repetition
I suggest you make a "Spirited Driving' section under general stuff
This would be the place to post track day footage, scenic rides or long trips etc, and of course where to mention every time you beat an i10 robot to robot (or Gti in some cases Rolleyes
Most other forums have one

I turned two of the spare seats we have into chairs (they were technically chairs to start with anyway) :

Anyone else done something similar? If so, put a picture up of yours.

Thumbs Up Mini vs. Supercharged '86 on skidpan
Posted by: u09521 - 11-07-2015, 07:25 PM - Forum: Spirited Driving - Replies (4)

Firstly - maybe Admin wants to add a 'Spirited Driving' section under 'general stuff'?

So my mate who's into rotaries convinces me to come out to Red Star raceway for the Rotorfest & I decide to give the Mini a highway run and go. Beautiful cars from real enthusiasts!

The skidpan is open to all and everyone is having fun and I'm feeling left out - so I decide to join. This is my first time ever on a skidpan and don't know what to expect. It turns out to be a major  jol! I get some sideways looks to start but the Mini holds its head high. It is still a crowd favorite with cheers everytime it hammers a fancy drift car! If only I can remember to close the windows before starting Tongue , when I did remember I left the back ones open...

Unfortunately I only have one video of a pretty crappy run against a supercharged Toyota 86. I didn't edit it 'cos I like the sound of the 649 cam at the start and the smile at the end. This driver had piles of experience and is the closest anyone got, despite me taking the long road in the start. Usually I'd be done by the time they got to the last 360...

  Should I or shouldn't I?

My brother-in-law is selling his Clubman. It's nothing special, but it is licensed and on the road, although as usual there are a couple of things that need doing. He's asking for R10k.

Pros:
It's licensed and a weekend or so of fiddling should have it on the road again.
I can probably leave it in his name until I feel like doing the COR and transfer.
I'll have a Mini to use for club runs and events.
If I change my mind I can probably strip it and more than make my money back.
Original OZ wheels.

Cons:
It's a bit ratty, and has been fiddled with (most of which should be easy enough to undo).
It's nothing rare of special, just a Clubman, and not very original.
I don't have spare money, so it will either need to run and be useful or I must strip and/or sell.
