1978 1100 Deluxe restored to Original
Posted by: DomMINIque - 10-01-2015, 08:46 AM - Forum: For Sale - Mini related - Replies (2)

This is not my car I'm just helping out a fellow Mini enthusiast

This is from the owner:
I have done the following,
Resprayed to the original colour, this was done by a reputable body shop in Port Elizabeth who specialize in old vehicles restoration.(Deluxe Body Works 041 4845928 Russel)

Motor completely redone (Dougie Stein 041 5815321 or 0765353756) Dougie has been restoring and repairing Mini for most of his life and does a great job.

The car is licensed and roadworthy.

Brief history
I bought the car earlier this year from a guy in Cradock who inherited it from his mom in Upington this car has never been at the coast only the last few months that I owned it.It has been in a garage under a car cover at all times and not been outside at all.
It had no rust and been completely stripped and resprayed including all the waves taken out the roof. The headlining is redone as well as all mats repaired and the door panels repaired and new backing board with clips done.
The motor has been rebuilt with the last set of 1100 pistons available that were still original from Leyland. All parts from the UK and motor is perfect.

Brakes completely redone brake shoes, drums cylinders all original parts except shoes they were redone.

The clutch completely redone with new parts.

Original 10" wheels refurbished with chrome caps and new tyres never been used (not the wheels in the pictures).

New radiator, jack in its bag, original in car manual.

My view was to put the car back to its original state as it left the factory. It will have the motor in but all the extra trim will be inside to have it all fitted.

The motor has the best oil I could find and will be putting coolant in and not water.

I am sad to sell it but won’t have the time to complete it and do not want to leave it in some ones care in PE.

Only the trim needs to be fitted to complete.

I have put huge amounts of money into the restoration so need realistic sale price.

Please ask prospective buyer to call me to explain as I may have omitted some detail.

Asking R50 000

Car is currently in Port Elizabeth
Thanks

Monthly Cars N Coffeee - not MOCSA
Posted by: Sean1380 - 09-30-2015, 08:34 AM - Forum: Events for Gauteng / JHB / PTA - Replies (7)

Hi all

Until i get a separate tab up for this, it will just have to slot into the MOCSA section.

So, idea here is, no club, no fees, no members, no committee, just a bunch a like minded petrol head, meeting once a month, early on a Sunday morning for a cup of coffee and a chat.

Takes place every 2nd Sunday of every month.

Last two meets were held at the Mugg and Bean in Midstream Estate, but the venues MAY change from time to time.

Keep and eye open.

If you want to be added onto the Johannesburg Cars N Coffee whatsapp chat, simply Whatsapp me on 082  87  87  848

Thanks

Sean

  Hello everybody
Posted by: Grant - 09-27-2015, 07:50 PM - Forum: Introduce Yourself - Replies (7)

I’ve loved minis from before I can remember. After having one Golf Mk1 stolen and a second hi-jacked, under the auspices of getting a car less prone to going walkabouts, back in 2000 at the age of 20, I bought my first mini, a beautiful, slightly modified Mk1.

My unlucky car streak was set to continue. Four months after getting it, the lethal combination of a slightly spiced up engine, locking-prone drum brakes all round (recently “repaired”) and boy racer antics saw me rolling my beloved mini down Sandton drive ending with me hanging upside down in my seat, facing up the road I had just driven down. Luckily (paying homage to the tough old steel that my mini was made out of) I climbed out of the car with a slight case of whiplash and a bruise on my leg. Naively I ended up selling my somewhat squashed mini for “scrap” for R200 less than it cost to flatbed the wreck away from the site of the crash.

With ebbing and flowing levels of enthusiasm I kept my eyes open for a second mini, this time more as a project than my daily runner. Eventually in 2006 I rescued a pretty straight looking mini (although sadly sporting a purple paint coat) from a back garden in Witportjie. From what I understand she’s a pretty standard MkIII, 1098cc, first registered in 1975 – suspiciously on 01/01/1975.

My project was put on hold for five years, living in London for four, and spending a year driving back to South Africa in my trusty Landcruiser.

I’ve been back in JHB for almost 2 years now and have slowly been collecting bits and pieces to build a 1330cc fast road/ club track day mini.

Hopefully I’ll kick things off properly sometime before the end of this year.

Happy to see the forum up and running again just such a pity that all the info on the previous forum was lost.

I can’t seem to find any photos at the moment so will post when I get a chance to take some more – unfortunately due to space constraints my mini lives at my folks’ place.

  1982 Leyland Mini 1275E
Posted by: Tiaan - 09-27-2015, 12:48 PM - Forum: Introduce Yourself - Replies (35)

Hi.

I bought a Leyland Mini 1275e about 4 years ago.  It was in a horrible state as it was used as a stunt car for clowns.
I bought it for my girlfriend to drive as she always wanted a Mini because her grandmother had one till the day she passed away.
I got the dents taken out, resprayed and re-upholstered.

I then started with the brakes, changed all the seals from the master to the slave cylinders.
I then changed every single engine and gearbox seal that there is and while I was was at it even changed the clutch, skeemed the flywheel and replaced the clutch slave cylinder.
I also replaced the timing chain with the tensioner.
I then re-greased the CV's, changed the ball joints and got the wheel alignment done.
I got a new exhaust system installed as the old one was rusted to pieces.

I replaced the water pump, the thermostat, re-cored the radiator and replaced the water pipes. I also flushed the water ports in the engine.

After everything was done I took the car out for a drive and it was boiling hot again.  So hot the pressure tank was boiling.
That was two years ago as I left it.
Yesterday I got the courage again and took the head off to replace the head gasket and put new unleaded valve seats and valves in.

Can anyone maybe help me by telling me why the car is still overheating?

sold Mini Shell
Posted by: Leykor - 09-25-2015, 09:30 AM - Forum: For Sale - Mini related - Replies (20)

Hi,

Im selling this mini shell, it has no papers:

I bought this as my first mini project back in 2006 (IIRC). It was a rolling chassis until the wheels went flat so it has subframes, wheels, hubs etc.

It has rust and dents but I'm sure it could still be restored or at least used for parts/panels.

I have the doors, bonnet and boot lid.

R2000 for the shell and parts, R1000 for all windows.

Location, Johannesburg, close to Cresta Mall.
