The complete set of spares and tools to carry on a road-trip in a Classic Mini
Posted by: Vinay-RS - 08-13-2018, 07:23 AM - Forum: General Chit Chat - Replies (11)

Following on from the best driving roads thread, I figure it would be nice to know what people carry in their Minis when they've taken a road-trip. Also saw a picture on Facebook today with a Mini boot full of tools and spares and thought about how that compares to normal Mini boots.

Best driving roads in South Africa
Posted by: Vinay-RS - 08-13-2018, 07:21 AM - Forum: General Chit Chat - Replies (1)

Based on a thread I saw on another forum, what would be the best driving roads to enjoy in a Mini?

I'll start it off with a few in the Cape that I quite like:

Victoria Rd from Camps Bay to Hout Bay.
Chapman's Peak Drive.
Franschhoek Pass.
Ou Kaapse Weg and Rhode's Drive (when the roads are empty).
Rooi Els drive back into the city.

  1100 Clubman
Posted by: Heinrich - 07-29-2018, 02:54 PM - Forum: General Chit Chat - Replies (2)

Hi guys i am in need of advise.
My Clubman was running great then left her standing for 2 weeks. I could not get the car to start again.I eventually took the car to a local shop and they got it going.(was told they fitted new plugs) I drove it for 2 weeks with no problem but could smell the car was running a little rich. ( petrol smell) A week later the car would not start. Got upset and decided to leave the car for the week end. This morning I bought the correct plugs as I always use the BP6ES plugs ,fitted a new coil turned the key. Car started straight up.  Drove to the local shop and when I got back to the car it would not start?  I am at the end of my wits. As mentioned it's got a new coil new plugs and a new electronic dizzy. I know it's not a trimming isseu as the car was running well. Can't be a points isseu as I fitted the electronic ignition. There is feul and spark? Could the carb be to rich causing the plugs the fail?  Please help.
I am in rustenburg so it's a drive to get to one of the mini specialists.
Any advise would be appreciated.

  Restoration of tail light housings
Posted by: Vinay-RS - 07-27-2018, 01:57 PM - Forum: Technical Queries / Questions - Classic Mini - Replies (3)

Hi everyone,

I've made a start at cleaning up a set of mk2 tail lights and I was looking for some advice on restoring the metal housings. Some internet forums seem to suggest that reflective paint is an option, but I'm not too sure whether it'd work well for the application.

Thanks Smile

Heart Suggest first upgrade/ Maintenance?
Posted by: jonsi7777 - 07-10-2018, 11:01 PM - Forum: General Chit Chat - Replies (4)

Hello mini people, I currently have some time on my hands and would love to improve the life of my little 1275 mini and my skills as a beginner in car mechanics.

It runs well, although struggles to start on these cold winter days (which I assume is normal ==> I am very new to this mechanic lifestyle). So I was asking for some guidance from you mini-experts on what would be a good thing to invest some time into, be it some routine maintenance or a suggestion to what systems or components need specific love/ upgrading. I have noticed that the wiring in the car seems a bit messy and the hoses old, I would love to replace them but It feels quite hard to do anything without removing the engine, which do you think is a manageable task for a beginner, or is it not worth doing if the car is currently running? I am a 3rd-year electrical engineering student, so I do have a basic understanding of electronics and mechanics. I do have a Haynes manual, so instructions seem very clear.

Thanks so much, can't wait to learn more! Just replaced the headlights and 4th spark plug (which appeared oily -> maybe some work to be done there?)

  My Moke build

I have mentioned in my intro that I am busy building a  couple of Mokes.
This is what was delivered to me.
Somebody obviously had a go at restoring the cars, but was not very successful.
