  Mini overheating
Posted by: Adriaan Roos - 10-26-2017, 02:51 PM - Forum: Technical Queries / Questions - Classic Mini - Replies (3)

Hi

I bought the Mini with an Uno radiator and electric fan installed. Initially the temperature went up to boiling point. One reason was a blown head casket and perhaps to hide this problem the thermostat was also removed. I installed a 82 degree thermostat and the head was done. Although the temperature is now lower it still goes up to about 100 degrees on the open road even with the electrical fan running. Is the Uno radiator not up to the task and will it help to fit the mechanical fan?

Regards

Adriaan

Hi from an old..new mini guy
Posted by: Revel - 10-26-2017, 12:12 PM - Forum: Introduce Yourself - Replies (5)

Hi All
my history with minis goes back quite a while but has been dormant for a while .
When I was 14 I wanted a bike but my mother nearly had a fit when I brought home a fifty cc Kriedler that I bought from the guy down the road . she said either the bike goes or you move out . So not being quite ready to move out at 14 I gave the bike back and made quite a loss.. Then  saved a bit more from working part timer at a camping shop
So I found a mini in the star classified (it was a 1960 850) and drove from Blairgowrie to Hillbrow on my bicycle to pay the guy. Got the papers but left the car where it was ... parked in the street. It had been there for quite a while .
That weekend I enlisted the help of my dad to drive it home . There the restoration started.I stripped everyrthing, even the gearbox and overhauled the whole car. eventually after the army ..6 years later it was done . I drove it to PMB and to Capetown and all over the country, eventually selling it and buying a Cortina bakkie.
this got my love for cars going
Recently my son turned 18 and got his drivers licence . He was set on buying a mini so we got a 1275e That is in really original  condition . Shortly after that i found a 1965 850 for a really good price so now we have 2
We are busy getting them both into top original condition in order to enjoy them fully.
That is why we are here and hoping you guys can help us and we can offer what we can

Hi all, today on my way home in my clubman, a Fortunar decided to smash into the back of my car. So..... I need a Boot lid rear bumper and tail lights.  Angry The owner of the toyota is insured and friendly. How do I go about this? Normal run around case no and quotes from 3 panelbeater ? Should I look for parts? Any advise will be great.

  Over heating
Posted by: Cleo_0 - 10-14-2017, 02:09 PM - Forum: General Chit Chat - Replies (4)

Hello. My mini is over heating. Mostly between robots. On the highway it cools down. Now the fan is blowing air out. We flipped the fan and its still blowing air. Normally its supposed to suck air in isnt it? Im wondering if i should just add an electric fan. Ive checked the gasket the thermo and the radiator so far. Just wanted to clarify on the fan before moving on.

Thanks!
