  K&N filter

Greetings Miniacs!

Any idea where I can get a K&N air filter for my HS4 carb in Cape Town. I have phoned around but most stockists of K&N don't have any for the Mini. Song places have pancake filters but they are paper element filters and the mounting plate hole size is all wrong.

  Reliability as a daily runner?
Posted by: ChristiaanV - 09-18-2017, 11:20 AM - Forum: General Chit Chat - Replies (4)

Hello fans

So I've been asked a few times from various people I speak with on this topic, how reliable is it driving a car that's over 30 years old?
I have not yet got my hands on a Mini but haven't given up just yet, and I will be honest the question has been nagging me for a bit.

So, how often is your (or people you know) mini standing still for repairs in a year or in a month?

I've had a 1996 Fiat Uno before that spent maybe 10 days in a year standing still because something broke like a water pump, petrol pump, broken distributor (shredded itself when the bearing welded together), gear shifter bushes crumbled and fell out, etc.

Now with the amount of money I have to spend on car, I can't get anything under 15 years old, so reliability is already out the window and with half a foot in the grave no matter what I buy.

I'm actually just trying to justify purchasing something that's ~30 years old for everyday use to get to work and go to events on weekends.

  My Little Mini Project
Posted by: Miniac 1976 - 09-11-2017, 06:07 PM - Forum: Introduce Yourself - Replies (1)

Hi all from across the way, I'm a British guy who is restoring and modifying a South African 1100 Clubman for his first car.

It's been a project that has span a year and a half over first predicted finish date. Big Grin Including various modifications that I didn't think I could do.
the current modifications I have done so far are An r53 Panoramic roof install, A rear opening bonnet and fitting the rear seats from an Audi TT to add a little modernization to an ageless design. all while restoring the car to make it look and feel like a mk1 Cooper with the acceptation of the Clubman front end.

Still having fun tracing the history of my car for show purposes like documents, SA plates and the SA only parts like the front reflectors and info about VIN plates. Any Help would be much appreciated.

Jake.

Hello

I just got my first car. A 1975 Austin mini. GTS. it has had some work done and no longer has 2 carburetors.

Ive had a couple of issues but managed to get most of them done.

Does anybody know where to get rubbers and clips for every window door and boot? my boot leaks and back windows. The previous owner left a small piece at the bottom of the windshield open. Have no idea why. I also need the mechanism to wind the window down. The mechanic i took my car to suggested i get a brand new one.

Also the car over revs by itself. Is there anywhere i could get a new spring?

Hi everybody.

Paul here. Proud owner of my first mini. Im a bit young and dumb so go easy on me. So lets get into it. I am not a pro but i know how to use a spanner and a screwdriver and how to follow instruction. So what was the first problem with my pink mini? Overheating obviously. So heres the plan before i spend any money on 3 core radiators and electric fans.

Flush radiator and get new caps. Check mixture and make sure im not running too lean which ive heard causes heating issues. And last i will check that the timing is not too retarded which ive heard also causes an engine to run hot. Oh and dont forget to check the oil level in the dashpot.

If there is anything else anybody could think of please all info is so greatly appreciated.

Happy mini days
Paul
oh its a 1275e

Aaah i forgot to mention i removed the thermostat and put in a blanking sleeve/tube
