Greeting Miniacs!!
I always used to start the car from inside the engine bay when working on the car by bridging the terminals on the starter solonoid using insulated pliers but i was thinking a start button would be a better idea. Has anyone done this I know there is a solonoid with start button incorporated but they are pricey. How do you do this. I bought a push starter unit that has two terminals with screw down fixing for a bracket, can I just wire the two terminals to the solonoid terminals? As I stated previously I am very good at frying car wiring and don't want to jigger the solonoid. Any ideas or advice welcome

Could someone assist by pointing out where all of the vehicle tags are stamped and located?
My project is turning out to be completely rusted with only a few panels to salvage so my idea is to transfer some panels to it from a donor. Obviously I don't want to mix and match panels with different tags. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there Miniacs!
Does anyone know if any Minis have been converted to electric in SA? I know some have been done in the USA and there are several firms in the UK who are doing this , not cheap mind you around 25,000 pounds but it would be interesting to know if someone locally has had a go; scrapper parts from hybrids and suchlike can't be easy to find in SA and there cant be much expertise either.

Some back ground first. Since I bought the mini (1275) 4 months back it only started after a long struggle. Up to a point that the battery was flat. I (and my mechanic) did the following in the interim: replaced the battery, recondition the starter, installed a electronic ignition, new dizzy and coil, replace the spark plugs, set the timing and filled up the dash pot with oil. Only to find out that a bad earth connection is responsible for the difficult starting.
It is starting much easier but still only after 3 to 4 tries. I pull the choke out (which is working), pump the gas pedal two times and then turn the ignition. Once it is warmed up there is no problem. Is this how it is suppose to be?

Good morning
My wife and I bought a 1981 1275E Mini. She always wanted a classic Mini and I must admit that I also have fallen in love with the little car. The Mini however needs some TLC. My mechanical knowledge is limited but I am willing to learn.
