Big Grin Mos Intro
Posted by: Moskonfyt - 04-12-2022, 08:30 PM - Forum: Introduce Yourself - No Replies

Hi everyone,

My name is Johan better known as Moskonfyt, I'm a very excited new owner of a 1983 Clubman that's currently in pieces.

I'm hoping to learn a lot and cannot wait to take it for it's first test drive..  miniback

I'm not so sure about the engine, might need some advise on rebuilding the engine?
I see in the UK they have this kit to rebuild the engine for $400 that consist of bearings, seals and gaskets plus pistons even... tried looking for that online but struggling.
I will see what the cost estimates are regarding the engine, if it's close to R8k then i'll rather do a engine swop, luckily got a extra subframe already modified for a Toyota 2L Twin cam.
My plan for the mini is not to have it as a toy, I'm lookong for reliability and fuel economy, if I do a engine swop then it will be a Honda L13z or L15z I-Vtec that comes from a Jazz.
The power on the L13 is 89hp and L15 101hp and gives 24km/l in a Jazz so think I might see 28-30km/L maybe... don't have a big foot Angel .

Seeing as you have read so far you might be just excited as I am Big Grin , please give me some wisdom so that I make educated decisions.

Awesome see you around!

  36 dcd weber
Posted by: Mini lover - 11-21-2021, 08:29 AM - Forum: Technical Queries / Questions - Classic Mini - No Replies

Hi guys I am new to the forum. I have a mini clubman that I 'inherited' from my son. It came with a weber 36dcd carb. Engine I think is a 1000cc or 998 more accurately. The carb is nice and really don't want to replace it. I want to rebuild it completely. Need advice on where to get a complete kit and on which jets are the best option.

Thanx for the add. I grew up in a mini clubman. My Dad always did his own repairs albeit not a qualified mechanic. I learnt the hard way with a regular clap on how to repair a mini.

  Single or double-skinned
Posted by: agrace - 09-27-2021, 11:21 AM - Forum: Technical Queries / Questions - Classic Mini - No Replies

Hi All

I am restoring a South African 1962 Austin Mini 850. My question relates to the bootlid. Should it be single or double-skinned?
Currently I have a double-skinned boot, but I think it was replaced at some point and want to make sure the car is restored to original spec.

Many thanks

Regards

Andrew
