Looking for Mini Cooper 1984 and younger |

Hello everybody, my wife is crazy about this little car. Every time we pass one, she almost freaks out. Now I want to make her a surprise and give her one as a present. I am looking for a relatively new model, i.e. 1984 and younger, preferably green, blue or red. The vehicle must be registered in South Africa and all papers must be in order. Preferably also with air conditioning, but not mandatory. I have just moved to Cape Town and if the vehicle could be viewed in Western Cape, that would be great. Thanks for your recomandations and offers.

Hi, the front cones of my 1275 E are starting to collapse. I see that replacement cones can be very expensive. Where is the best place to buy them from? I assume I also need to get a cone compressor to do the replacement, where can I get one?

Replacing rubber cones with steel coils |

For all those that wondered if the steel coil spring conversion is worth it, it is not. I had the steel springs in our Mini. At first the ride seems great but the suspension does not have enough travel to give any benefit. As you know steel springs have a linear compression rate whereas the rubber cones have a compound rate. So if on a perfectly smooth road the steel is nice, a very supple smooth ride, but it would hit the bump stops on even the smallest undulation. This was with the ride height set to standard. By the time you have springs stiff enough so it would not hit the bump-stops, it would be a very uncomfortable ride. So I replaced the steel springs with brand new rubber cones and wow, what a difference. It handles speed bumps with ease and the comfort is as good as you can get with a mini. So to those that consider this mod, don't do it!
