Our April event is Angela’s Picnic and because this is a no fire event, only picnic baskets will be allowed.
Angela’s Picnic is an event that has been staged for the last 33 years at Delta Park in Linden, JHB. Organized by the South African Marque Car Association (SAMCA), now South African Motor Clubs Association, on the first week end in April, in memory of Angela Heinz.
Angela Heinz was a remarkable lady whose interests included crop-sprayers, off- road motorcycles, opera, Morgan cars, rifle shooting and Dobermans. How's that for diverse interests? She kept a Rolls Royce in England called Edwina for regular sorties to the Continent, studied fashion in London, Haute Cuisine in Paris and life in the world at large.
She arranged this totally laid-back, noncompetitive picnic in the park to give SAMCA members and the public the opportunity to see a variety of very special cars in one place. SAMCA (South African Motor Clubs Association) is the coordinating body for over thirty clubs catering for Classic cars in South Africa.
Angela died of cancer some years ago and a collection is made at the picnic every year, which is donated to the South African Hospice Association.
Over the years SAMCA has collected and donated up to R700,000-00 to organizations for cancer sufferers and terminally ill people.
So make a mark in your diary for the 2nd April. We will have a gazebo and ask that if you have one bring it as well, along with your picnic blanket and chairs. We require a Club Marshal who will assist in maintaining some order on that day as required by the JMPD and Parks Board.
The gates open lekker early at 7am for those who want to miss the rush.
For those of you that would like to convoy, call the following members.

Magaliesberg Run – Lover’s Rock – 26 March 2017
Article by Séan Brennan.
A pretty cold wet looking start to the morning in Johannesburg, seems to have put a few of our members off from taking their wee beasties out for the morning, or perhaps it was the +200km trip that was the problem.
Our 1st meeting point was in Pretoria at Menlyn MINI again, bright an early at 8am, the procession left there at 8.30am and met up with some more of us at Lanseria TOTAL Petroport @ 9am. We had a cup of coffee to warm the cockles of our heart and headed back onto the road.
The roads were not the greatest, but we had no major casualties, apart from one of the carbs on Simon’s beautiful yellow van deciding to hiccup and give some grief, luckily, George Clifford was on hand with a spanner and a screwdriver and had the 998 motor purring again in two shakes of a lambs tail.
There were two options for the day, eat at the restaurant or picnic/braai, but with the R80 costs per person just for entry to braai, we all opted for the restaurant.
Unfortunately the service was really not up to scratch, it reminded us of the unofficial Xmas run to Roccomamas where in two hours they couldn’t make 15 burgers, but the food was reasonable (provided you didn’t order the calamari) and affordable, would we go back ? Probably not J.
However, the run was enjoyable, and a good long trip to blow the cobwebs out of our little A series engines.

Hi Guys,
I want to start putting my mini back together again and would like to get new bolts and nuts where possible for 2 reasons.
1. I may have lost a few here and there
2. During the strip-down I found that the previous owner used incorrect bolt sizes even forcing metric threads in some instances.
Can anyone suggest a good place to buy imperial bolts and nuts around Johannesburg, Randburg?
Advise around:
What do I need to look out for?
Is there a specific metal that I'm looking for?
Is there a few common sizes that I can buy 50 of each to sort me out?
I found one supplier that sells imperial bolts, but is it a black bolt which looks prone to rust.
Thanks,
|
