  Tim's Mini GTS Race Car
Posted by: MiniGTS - 02-05-2016, 11:28 AM - Forum: Your Classic Minis Story - Replies (46)

Hi guys,

So I'm back! Very glad to have this forum running again as it such a great source of information and parts. For those of you that don't know my name is Tim and I have a 1978 Mini GTS that I've had for about 5 years now. Bought it as a non runner because the flywheel had fretted on the crank and the owner couldn't afford the repairs. I've been working on the car for some time but it has been tough because in that time I got my degree and moved house 3 times as well as helped my parents build a new home, but my Mini has always been with me Smile  My intention is to race in the Historic Marque car category so the car will still be road legal. So this is how it all started, and be warned that this first post is picture intensive!

Bought it on the Wednesday and had the motor out the next day! She had a bit of rust but nothing major, she has also been in a couple of accidents but the repairs have been done okay.

Fixed up all the rust in the engine bay and those are test sprays on the side of the car for what could be the final colour.

Rear parcel shelf molested to fit speakers but no worry, weight reduction!

Just some more images of the fixed up gauges and boot floor.

So thats pretty much it for the older photos, so recently I bled the brakes and clutch and went for my first drive! It was awesome even though I didn't go more than 40. Have to adjust the rear brakes and finish off all the trim and glass. So this is as she stands now:

Going to do my best to finish it in the next couple of months but it will be challenging! I am now employed full time at Toyota Motorsport while still trying to get my masters degree so that will be tough but I do get to play with some awesome cars.... I also got the opportunity to go to The Dakar Rally this year which is an experience I will always treasure. So thats it for now and ill keep all you guys updated! Many thanks for all the support these past years

Hi guys,

So I only found the new forum now  Sad

My Mini project is still going but at a reduced pace due to a new job. But I drove my car for the first time last year December! Will make a thread with some pictures and videos. Also purchased a really nice Moke with my Dad which I hope to get done this year. Glad to be back!

  Looseness in gear lever
Posted by: Vinay-RS - 01-29-2016, 11:23 AM - Forum: Technical Queries / Questions - Classic Mini - Replies (9)

Hi all,

Recently I was told that my gear selector is a little loose and that something might need replacing (forgot what exactly). I was wondering where I should start to investigate and whether it would be a job I could tackle myself? Please note, I am still pretty useless at most technical jobs Tongue
I was also curious what the replacement parts might cost, as cash is a wee bit tight at the moment.

Thanks,

Vinay

sold Panelvan Shell For Sale
Posted by: Sooper - 01-27-2016, 11:15 AM - Forum: For Sale - Mini related - Replies (3)

Hi Guys, my panelvan shell is for sale, it is just a shell on wheels, no interior and no motor/ components, no bumpers/ lights literally just a shell, it has papers up to date with a licence disc valid until June 2016. the front floor needs replacing as well as doors, rest of the shell seems fairly solid. its a perfect starting point for a project build.

its currently in PMB.

id like R8000 for it as thats what it cost me with transport.

i have given 1st option to a mate who will let me know by the weekend.
