  1330 Aspirations
Posted by: Grant - 10-18-2015, 09:53 AM - Forum: Your Classic Minis Story - Replies (26)

In the 9 years I’ve owned this mini apart from maintenance type jobs I’ve only done a couple of small things like fitting electronic ignition, rebuilding the 1.25” carb and drum brakes; and replacing the venter trailer type wheels with mistrals.

The plan is to do a full rebuild, with a bare metal respray (hopefully), a little bit of attention to the interior and then the following mods -
Convert front drums to 7.5” discs,
rear drums to the smaller 15.875mm cylinders and then assess the need for adjustable regulator valve
·        Hi-los, toe and camber adjusters, and adjustable gaz shocks
·        1330cc engine, Hypatec pistons
·        1275 cylinder head – still deciding what route to go re modifications, valve size and type, unleaded conversion, cam type, etc
·        1.75” SU carb
·        Maniflow LCB
·        998 flywheel
·        GTS gearbox (if I can find one)
·        Supercool 2 core radiator
·        New oil and water pumps
·        Working instrument gauges to tell me how all the above is doing
·        Replacing other tired bits and pieces that I come across as I go along

I’ve been slowly but surely collecting the various bits and pieces I need and finally I think I’m at the point where I can get the ball rolling, with the help of my 2IC younger brother who I’ve managed to rope in … for now.

I’ll be posting more specific questions as they come to me but any advice/ recommendations/ obvious floors in my thinking at this stage please let me know.

Huh

I need some help here, buying a 1966 MKI from a friend, the car he possess does not have paperwork.

How would I go about getting paperwork together for this car? I understand it is a LENGTHY and almost IMPOSSIBLE feat, but maybe someone here has POSITIVE experience that they could share with me?

Thanks
J

Standard Mini front seats and sport steering wheel
Posted by: alfaquad - 10-14-2015, 01:52 PM - Forum: Wanted - Mini Related - Replies (9)

I am looking to put standard front seats into my car as the bucket-seats I have in mean I can't use the back seats. When I bought the car it had two broken Alfa GTV seats in, so I never had the standard Mini seats.

I would need to get the seats reupholstered to look the same as the rest of my interior, so it's fine if they not in perfect condition.

Also, I have a nice little 3-spoke sport steering wheel on, but I need to get it redone as it's  coming apart. I would not mind replacing it with a wood rim wheel, but still a smaller, sporty one.

General running costs of a classic Mini
Posted by: alfaquad - 10-14-2015, 01:49 PM - Forum: General Chit Chat - Replies (2)

I am a bit out of the loop with this as I haven't run my car for a long time...

Based on two categories:

- Daily car
- Weekend car

How much does it cost you to run your classic Mini? Fuel consumption? How often do you service? Cost of it? What breaks more than often? All the basic things that could cost you money. Insurance etc.

I'm keen on using my Mini every now and then as a daily when I feel like it. After sorting it out of course. Just keen to see what you guys think of the running costs of these cars vs more modern dailies.

  Mini Trailer
Posted by: Leykor - 10-13-2015, 10:13 PM - Forum: Technical Queries / Questions - Classic Mini - Replies (7)

Hi,

So I've been thinking of an alternative use for my mk1 shell and I have seen a few pictures of mini trailers like:

Some have made them short and others long. Some I believe have reused the roof to make a solid top trailer.

Has anyone in SA tried this? any suggestions on size/length? hard top vs soft top?

More importantly is it just a case of mark, cut and weld close and weld on a tow attachment to the rear sub-frame?

I'm thinking it will be a great way to practice my non existent welding/fabrication skills.
